I recently bought myself a korg nanopad. I've got no prior experience with an MPC or anything similar, so i decided against splashing out on an MPD or anything too expensive.

I recently stumbled upon the AKAI LPD and the LPK. They seem to be pretty much the same thing, I was just wondering if i wasted my money or not.

this is the korg nano series. i've not come across an akai product similar to the nanokontrol, so perhaps that should stay out of this discussion. or maybe there is one that i havent found.

so, what do you guys think?

i prefer the keys on the lpk to the nanokey. the LPK is only £45 and the nanokey is £40. i think id rather spend the extra fiver on the LPK. but im not entirely convinced the LPD is better than the NanoPad.

Can I get an exention on this matter please?
I'm just starting on this music production thing and I just want a small thing to start with, so i was pondering buying Korg's Nanokey. But seeing this, with the same price, got this Akai LPK25 that seems more "better build" specially the keys.

Can someone with more exeprience give it a shot?

Thank you

If you are interested in buying one of the pad samplers, i'd suggest getting the korg nanopad. im not sure about the build quality of the LPD but the korg nanopad is an ideal introduction to pad sampling if you are on a low budget. having 12 pressure sensitive pads, and 4 available scenes is a lot more useful than i thought.

I'm using the NanoPad with FL 8 (mostly for the FPC, but sometimes as an instrument) and i haven't had any issues since i downloaded the right drivers from the korg website. I wouldnt say i was an expert with the pads, but it's definately everything i need to learn.

The most widely accepted opinion you'll find amongst producers (and I agree):

AKAI wins with the keys (nanoKEY's keys are, in fact, laptop keys without letters and arranged like a musical keyboard).

KORG wins with the pads (AKAI, despite being the traditional "go-to-brand" for pad-based-devices, has a vested interest in their expensive MPC series and puts shoddy pads in their lesser units to convince you to upgrade).

KORG's nanoKONTROL significantly beats the LPD8's knobs. (Akai didn't make a dedicated control surface to compare directly, but rather opted to bundle a few knobs on the LPD8).

for keys definitely the lpk ... the others I haven't tried but for my mobile setup got an mpd18 on sale ... I'd rather have that than the little pads ...
