Hi,

I have a Vestax PCV-175 mixer with effects send and return. I also have a Korg Kaoss pad with effects send and return compatibility.

I've never tried hooking them up like this, usually opting for the Kaoss pad being inline with the master out from the mixer but I'd like to see how it goes as a send/return.

Could somebody please tell me how to hook it up - it what leads to where etc as I've no idea!

am I right in thinking that the pad will only function on one channel in this manner?

Thanks for any help!

You wire it throught the effects send/return in the back of the mixer (i used to have one but cant remember the connections at the back) and then use the switches, you should be able to use it with both channels, just turn each on and off when required.

How do you find the chaos pad? Ive heard so many mixed reports about it, are the effects good?

The Kaoss Pad is okay - I mean the effects are great, and I have used it in music production as the X/Y method of use makes it very easy to use - better than lots of knobs and dials. The only quibble I have with it is that in a live mix it is almost impossible to enter and leave an effect cleanly apart from on effects that 'fade' in and out. I only use about 3 or 4 effects commonly - the flanger and phasers when mixing.

The mixer has specific 'send and return' outputs on it - they look like 5mm jack plugs to me - definitely not thered and white RCAs used by its other phono inputs etc.

the Kaoss pad has no specific send and return inputs on it - just phone and line in, and line out.

Any ideas which wires should go in what holes?

Thanks for the reply!

are you using the kaoss pad KP2 or the original version? cuz the KP2 does use stereo RCA jacks.

oops, just read your post, your mixer has the weird send/return jacks. my bad...

i have an sp303 that sounds the same, and ive recently bought a xone62 which has jack send/return so i think i can help!

firstly to sort out the jack plugs, you can get adapters for trs jack plugs that converter the rca phono plug to a jack plug. for the connections take plug the cable into the send plug and then plug the other end into the line in on the korg. the take a cable from the line out into the return plug.

then turn both the send and return rotary faders up full. both these faders control how wet (signal completey under control of the korg) or dry (signal not affected by korg). hopefully with the faders on full what ever signal outputs from your mixer goes through the korg and back into the mixer and then the processed signal is outputted the normal way.

hope this all makes sense, if you got any questions just post a reply to this. if it doesnt work you may need to set up something on the korg for a send/return connection have a look in the manual

Hi Sli,

Thats exactly what I was looking for! Thanks! I need RCA -> Jack converters then and then I will be able to make use of the Kaoss Pad (version 1).

I used to have it inbetween the mixer and the amp, on 'direct mode', but your right - theres a switch on the bottom of that pad that tells it that its in 'send and return' mode. Flicking that I guess will make it operate correctly.

For ages I've been wanting to effect just one channel (for cool mix ins and outs) or the whole output at my decision, now it looks like I will be able to.

Thanks very much everyone for the help. If it doesn't work I'll post again!
