I sample vinyl mostly but have sampled from vhs, dvd, playstation and handheld recorder. I feel wherever you find a tight sample, be grateful and use it. I always try to keep my ears open.

There's nothing more satisfying than finding a dollar bin record that turns out to be a gem for sampling.

AMEN.

I think Vynil gives it more or a LIVE feeling... LIke the beat is alive you feel me? Personally, I download songs... a gang of songs... and when I find something I can use... I look for the vynil... and once I find it... BUy it and chop chop...

Damn, interesting stuff! I've never sampled a thing in my life. I was going to head down the road of just vinyl because I hear it can be cheaper and you get that great vinyl sound. I've some questions after reading the previous posts, here are some of them:

1. How does one go about sampling (as Invisible Man has done) VHS, Video game consoles (including game boy), DVD, etc.. into a program such as reason or recycle?

2. Can i find a cheap turntable to sample vinyl into reason/recycle?

1.
-VHS(VCR) has audio outputs on the back (usually only one though)
-DVD has audio outs on back of player
-I sampled playstation by using the cable that came with the system (one end connects to playstation, other end has one yellow one red and one white cable. white and red cables into sampler)
all video game consoles have some kind of audio output jack

2. I have 2 technics 1200s now but when i started i bought a belt-driven numark turntable for $99. you could probably find a cheaper one used

you will need a mixer also

turntable---> mixer ----> computer

Only limits with sampling is your imagination

Good Luck
