Catnap takes offense with pretty much every comment and really gets upset if you disagree with him. Just don't acknowledge him and he'll leave you alone. :)

Catnap = The proverbial devil's advocate LOL :D

theoretically it would be possible to measure energy of a crowd and have a computer adjust accordingly but in my opinion, the crowd-dj relationship goes both ways...it is an exchange.. like a conversation. they have teddybears that can respond and learn from a kid but i doubt it is possible to have a logical conversation with a robot. believe me, i have tried with smarterchild and it doesnt work very well. same goes with djing. just like the necessity of social skill, a dj, in my opinion, needs to have something to say to the crowd and put it in a way that the crowd finds it entertaining.

there is alot of talk here about rocking the house since i guess that is the main purpose of a dj, however i spin becuase it makes me happy. i am happiest spinning by myself. connecting with the book reference from another post, its just the best when you can feel the equipment and become one with it...to the point that it vanishes and you are left with music, almost like the way that the text on a page goes away in a good book and you are left with the story and meaning.

the fact that this topic is about the art of djing implies that there is room for evolution since that is the nature of "art" in my definition. art wouldnt be art anymore if it stopped changing.
