Hey, So I've come here looking for some answers to a problem I have. Typing MIDI into the search engine on this site brought me here and you clearly know your stuff. I'm not a complete newbie and understand the principles of midi and so far with the help of the information in the manuals I have for my various machines I've not ran into any problems until now.
I have acquired and old AKAI S2000 by default and want to use it as it has 8 outs I can send to my mixer and also I'm trying to take some of the work away from my PC as it's not the most up to date and only has 2gb of RAM. Anyway, my problem is not the AKAI my problem is that I now have 3 out board MIDI instruments, which seems to be causing problems. I previously had my MC307 and my JV1080 chained and had no problems but with the 3rd instrument in the chain it seems that it will work fine for a while but then for some reason when I play my master keyboard a latency occurs.
I've tried using a midi thru box straight from my audio/midi interface (M-Audio Fastrack pro) and going out to each machine (not chained) yet the same problem happens. I've also tried with a different midi module in place of the S2000 and I get the same problem so it seems clearly a matter of there being 3 instruments.
Drawing the midi in works fine and there are no sticky notes or latency issues but the midi messages getting out from my PC (running Cubase SX 2) to the midi instruments is delayed when there are 3. I can see the MIDI activity on the channel I'm trying to play is on time and not delaying but the signal is not getting to the machines quick enough. Opening a software instrument triggers fine from the master keyboard too so somehow the signal coming out is having trouble.
I didn't think 3 instruments should be a problem? I'm wondering how to fix this issue? I've tried different MIDi leads and set up configurations? Is it
my M-Audio fast track pro not keeping up? is it Cubase SX2. Any help would be appreciated. I've consulted the manuals and my MIDI hand book and can't find a solution.
Cheers
K

OK I think I've found the problem so if anyone has the same issue here's what I've found.
I just tried the same set up with my audiophile 2496 pci audio/midi card and it ran without a glitch so I can only assume it's the fact that my M-AUDIO fast track PRO usb interface is the problem?
Any thoughts?
