i consider myself an OK writer and i get better and better everytime. but i find freestyling kind of difficult i that a bad thing? but i also want to get better at it any advice?

i'm like that too. somebody asks me to freestyle, i just kinda get stuck, but my writing is decent and its been getting better as i grow. my advice would probably to be just freestyle any chance you get; in your head, in a room by yourself, anywhere. I try to spit a few lines when i go to throw the trash out at work lol. it has made my writing better, cause i just get so much more emotion out of it cause i'm in a moment in my mind where i'm just saying what i feel, and some good lyrics come of it, But I also think it has improved my freestyling, now i can spit a few lines (not way too many, but a few haha) amongst people and it feels like it comes a bit more naturally....
just what i think about the question you asked, hope you can get something out of it... peace man

Practice practice practice practice x 10293487565389809578...Thats what its about. Half of the "Big time" rappers can't even freestyle FOR REAL. They write it down before hand or its just lyrics from a track they've already recorded. If you really want to do it THAT bad, you have to practice and eventually you'll train your mind to start thinking a couple bars ahead in advance before you even speak it. Its not easy..

freestyling is a pointless skill. It takes years of practice to be able to spit bars as good as written ones and whats the difference? freestyling a track doesnt make it a better track.... Freestyle if you want to and if you find it fun. If you cant do it so what, doesnt change your talent for writing.

yeah the irrelevanve of freestyle nowdays kind of kills the point of actually doing it. I figure it's fun, but it's not to the point were you have to be spitting in the booth for marathons to prove the quality of your albums....lol, do whatever floats your boat though, i still practise it.

people cant teach you how to freestyle. your best bet is to get some freinds who can do it and all yall just freestyle together. also keep a few go-to lines in the bag.

i dissagree sayin your not an emceein if you cant freestyle
what is a written verse but a freestyle written down?

i think the only point really in freestyling unless you plan on battling is to spit some bars while with friends or something.

I don't agree with a written verse being a freestyle written down because 9 times of 10 people don't write in a stream of conscious. Most people usually write some lines, come back to it, write some lines, come back to it. When you're freestyling there is no break.

I know amazing freestyler who can't write a verse to save their lives...I know amazing writers who can't freestyle to save their momma life.

I came up when cats freestyled for fun...that freestyling for fun turned into writing songs for fun...then writing songs and freestyling for money...so it was hand in hand for us...now days is freestyling as important? NOPE...does it set apart a good song writer from other songwriters and performers, YEP.

In this day and age anything that sets you apart from the million others out there is still a good thing...

Freestyle with people who are MUCH better than you...best to learn from those much better than you...you improvement will generally come faster...

i wouldnt recomend anyone freestylin on a trak cuz if ur tryna get respect 4 rappin i only giv it if wut the person is sayin is legit.. i dont like most mainstream rapperz cuz they all talk about shootin people n **** wen they dont.. thatz y i stik to rapperz from my area n the bay cuz 4 the most part u gotta live wut u rap bout round here n i like that.. aside from that n bak to the point freestylin is good practice to make partz of ur rymez come out more smoothly wen writin cuz alot of time at least 4 me is ill think bout **** way faster than i can write it so havin a voice recorder is useful sometimez n freestylin most people get stuck up on transitional wordz n lil **** to make everything make sense n r too self conscious about it.. im like that unless im drunk or sumthin haha n comfortable wit the situation im n.. freestyle practicin will help n the long run 4 that reason.. wit the transitional wordz... 4 example ull b goin n b like: ill **** on a ***** n ill say **** that snitch u cant come wit **** cuz IM WELL EQUIPED or U AINT EQUIPED - at the last part alot of people will think bout 2 or 3 possible wayz to say it n they cant make up their mind so they get tounge tied.. this is a dissadvantage 4 the professionalist rapper who needz every line to make sense n b perfect.. basically wut im sayin is if ur goin to freestyle u need to relax n not worry bout the small ****

this is true not becuz your gifted it's becuz the way you think. Someone who freestyles usally has a background of batteling (now i said usually) but other times it's just for fun. but with that battel state-of-mind to write someting seems difficult or usless if their is no one to battle or to make a club song cus most of the times club songs don't say ****.

I had a friend who could spit freestyle like crazy, but when it came to write he always hit road blocks, to some it just flows natural to say it then try to make it out and write.

I on the other hand suck balls at freestyling, one of my artist who I produce for can spit freestyle only when messing around about some real perverted type stuff but o na serious note it's blank. but when it comes down to write a 16 hes' on that smart wittin similies filled verses that make you say "DAAMMNNN!!",

so in a nut shell:
It's not what you can't do, it's what you can.

If you can wirte it, write itm if you can freestyle, freestyle

but don't stress about not being able to do one over the other.
