Hi, i just bought a keyboard from the swapmeet, Casio CTK 401, i know that its not one of the top keyboards, but do u guys know if its possible to make hiphop beats on it? i was able to make old skoolish drumloops on it, but does anybody know what else i can do on it? And i want it to sound like the keyboard in the movie Hustle and Flow, i tried hooking it up to a guitar amp, but it sounds the same, i want it to sound deep like the one in the movie. Thanks:D

i dont think the sound that "came" out of the keyboard in the movie really came from the keyboard. the dude that they had who produced that track (i forget the name but according to the dvd hes big in memphis) prolly used a diff board. it may have also just been some sampled sound. idk

Ok, I'm sorry to have to be the one to snap you into reality, but it's not just that the CTK401 isn't "one of the top keyboards"... it's not ANY kind of professional-quality gear at all.

You can make "hip hop beats" on it, but you are going to be VERY limited in the range of sounds available to you.

Whether you want to sound like something you heard in a movie is besides the point ... I could buy a used VW Beetle, and want to go as fast a Lamborghini ... but it's not gonna happen!

It's not just a matter of what kind of amp you hook it up to ...you have to have gear with the right kind of potential to begin with. You also have to know what you are doing with that gear.

which keyboard u talking about? The one where he buys it off the crack head or the one the white guy is playing? Which keyboard is the white guy using?

LOL @ the computer he ges from the crackhead. That is like something I go for my third B-Day from a yard sale.

im talking bout the one the white guy used to make beats. i bought the casio ctk 401 for 20 bucks.

is there anyway i can manipulate the sound from my keyboard to make it sound more deep and echoy like the professional keyboards?

Well you can either record the audio output of your synth to s software sequencer and then use some effect VSTs over the sound. Or you use hardware effect devices to influence the sound. Those are your only options.

My advise to you is to use the keyboard to learn how to play chord and stuff like that and save up for something a little better you could also do what I do with my Casio CTK-491 turn the volume all the way down and use it as a midi controller in FL or some other sequencer.

the guy who i believe produced Whoop That Trick & It Ain't Over is Al Kapone and It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp was produced by Three 6 Mafia obviously. I doubt the keyboard in the film was used to make the songs you will have to look up the equiptment.

yea thats his name, al kapone. he also wrote it the lyrics.

lol, when tom cruise makes a pen into a bomb in mission impossible you don't go out and by a bunch of inkpens to practice that! Movie = fantasy. Next you'll think beating up Ludacris will get you a record deal!

roland put out a keyboard with speakers on it that was pretty much a juno-106 with speakers built in it.. i think it was the juno-106..
and sk1's have speakers

but yeah that's a pretty good rule of thumb

If it has midi download fl studio http://flstudio.com and use it as a midi controller, other then that, there were some good suggestions, use it to learn chords, but used with a sequencing program and midi you can get the sound you are looking for, with the vast amount of vst's available.

if its midi capible is it velocity sensitive..

that's a bag damn thing IMO
