6 Steps To Reaching Artists on Twitter

Noticed that a lot of members really aren't utilizing twitter like they could. I know a lot of you get it but it also seems like a lot don't get the basics so I wanted to go ahead and explain what has worked for me and just some general rules.

1. Step one is obviously to set up a twitter account. In your bio, make it clear your a music producer and make sure you have an email address in there so that people can contact you when needed. This will also save you time by not having to send your email out all the time.

2. Follow people that are relevant to what you want to accomplish. If you're looking to place beats with rapper, follow those rappers you are interested in and not 10 thousand twitter models lol.

3. Now once you're following the people you actually care about, chances are you'd like to maybe submit some beats to them and see what you can make happen. DO NOT @ THEM WITH YOUR SOUNDCLICK/SOUNDCLOUD/SPAM LINKS!

4. Unless you have a name they recognize, they follow you, or they aren't very popular, chances are they wont reply when you ask for an email address to send beats to and they're definitely not hanging out clicking links. So what has worked for me is, take a look at some of the people they talk to on twitter. You usually can find their friends, their DJ's, managers, tour managers, artists signed to them, etc. These people can HELP you a lot. These people usually aren't nearly as popular as the artist themselves so you have a much greater chance at them seeing your message and actually responding.

5. Now one thing I notice a lot is, you see somebody hit up artists or these managers with things like "I'M THE GREATEST PRODUCER EVER, I JUST NEED ONE SHOT! PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL!". This is a horrible first impression, its almost as if you met this individual in person and dropped to your knees begging for a shot, very unprofessional. You're better off saying something like "Hey man, got some beats for (artist name) but don't have anywhere to send them. You got an email for beats by any chance?" Much more professional approach and much less desperate sounding. Not everyone will respond but a lot of these people want to help their artists, so if they can be the person to give them some dope new beats, they'll do that.

6. Now if you're hitting up one of their artists that they're signed to or work with closely, don't even mention the bigger artist. Nobody wants to feel used, so ask to send them some beats for them to use on their own projects. Build your relationship with them and chances are they wont mind later on helping you get to whatever artist you were focused on anyway.

These are just things that have worked for me and I've gotten email addresses for people from Big Sean to 2chainz and a bunch others using these techniques on twitter. Hope that helps some of you!

I've found that twitter marketing is best applied to a targeted group of people; in a generous way. Reaching out to people as often as possible with content that can help to improve the quality of their music will impact your level of your success. There's nothing wrong with providing a link in tweets as long as you direct people to a specific track, instead of your entire library of music. Allow others the opportunity to build curiosity before bombarding them with an entire terabyte of beats, or songs.

Also, be sure to mention your followers in the updates you post. There's no need to attach links to your beat library if you've already done so on your profile's page. Those who choose to follow you, usually do so because they like what you've said in on your profile. Once people are follow you, it's okay to send them links to your library's latest and greatest; however, sending people to a specific song will increase your chances of making a positive first impression.

Professionalism is the key to opening doors in the music business. Once you've opened the doors, it'll be easier to impress others with your talents.

Youre talking about general marketing, my post was more geared towards reaching major artists. Also I dont know anybody thats ever been happy to get a random music link in their mentions that they didnt ask for, or know the person personally that they got it from. I think even promoting your beats, its better to just send out a general tweet not aimed at anybody and allowing the people who care to visit instead of pushing it on to them.

There's nothing random about targeted marketing, regardless of the methods used to reach out. Anyone who wants to sell their music will need to make their music known. There are ways to receive links, which weren't asked for, that can be a pleasure to receive. People send invite links, music links, opportunity links, and more everyday. It's irresponsible to ignore the link sharing capabilities of social networks. Personally, I wouldn't want to follow anyone who doesn't use social media to share links.

As far as majors are concerned, interactions still work the same. Focus on your building your fan base and reach out to major players during their business hours; regardless if it's through social media or face to face. Respond to messages and attach a link to your as your signature, or that is relevant to your response. Regardless if the celebrity type responds to you or not, you're followers will have your back by supporting you with a RT. Major players won't respond to your messages immediately. Instead, they'll let you do you while they go about their lives. Once you've become familiar to them, you'll be contacted.

How do you get attention, if your not sharing links?

I think even promoting your beats, its better to just send out a general tweet not aimed at anybody and allowing the people who care to visit instead of pushing it on to them.

General tweets are valuable, and general tweets with links are more valuable. Especially when you're able to track the clicks from that link. The information gathered from general clicks show us what's most valuable about our content. I'm speaking in terms of using both techniques to spread the word. There's more than one way to use social media, why limit ourselves to using one method?

I'm still going to disagree with you, if that works for you keep doing it but I've never seen sending out random links work. In general tweets, of course i meant including your link, but mentioning people with your link is just annoying IMO.

You're free to disagree, I'm just letting the forum know my experience with the matter; regardless of your acceptance, no offense intended. In other words, I'm just sharing what I've found throughout my online marketing efforts.

Personally, the people I mention in my campaigns are those who appreciate the updates I send them. As a matter of fact, my following grows when link sharing. For a long time I was using serendip.me to broadcast videos to my twitter and facebook followers. What was cool is that I wasn't only broadcasting my updates. I was also broadcasting the videos sent to me by my followers, much like an underground online music station with videos. If you've never heard of serendip.me, you should check them out.

All good fam, good to see a different perspective!

Your best bet is to just ask them when their tweeting.. Lotta times they'll tweet one thing and dip.. But sometimes they'll sit down and tweet for 15-30 mins.. Thats your window.. Has helped me a couple times.. I got chevy woods email like dat

Yeah i got his email too but usually with bigger artists, when they start tweeting is when people rush in to talk to them etc. But it can work like u said depending on your luck.
