how much do local rappers make per gig??

I can feel that. I think I actually said the same thing somewhere in this thread; but the best of irony comes out in those situations.

I'm currently in San Diego. From 314 (St. Louis) obviously; but I moved here from Portland and the hip hop scene there was great. Everybody was into it which was cool. Lots of artists come through there because of it that never come my way. I guess the only downside is because of it lots of people tried to get into the scene and Idk about you guys, but i feel bothered when everybody around you does the same thing as you. It's one thing if they have been raping or making beats or whatever but when the whole town thinks they have a shot at an ill verse it gets annoying. Nothing wrong with competition just get irked by Me Too's.

@inverted, yes there is plenty "oh i rap to" stuff here. it's not uncommon for your hip hop show to be filled with other rappers.

people other than wanna be rappers show up. but they show up for the social aspect of it, not to hear any of the wack rappers who came to perform. everybody and they mama is a rapper nowadays. its like u almost get ashamed to say u do it, its like saying u work at mcdonalds. its just so cliche to hear a young black dude say that they rap. sad but true.
 
i cant speak for other markets but in miami there is a parity of elite emcees and performers....everybody can rap, dope ass ****...there are so many producers down here that there isnt a market to sell beats even cause all the great ones are "giving back to the scene" ( except for the trap producers cause their selling to guys who drop thousands in KOD )...

point is when uou have such a high concentration of talent you absolutly need a "gimmick"

when you have a high concentration of talent you need to play the politics too...I cant tell you how many shows I got becuase of my friendship with a couple of the key players in the underground down here...I didnt have to kiss ass or anything but showing up to someones kids birthday party with a gift goes a loooooooong way in a game where when you have something people are constsntly asking you for it.

the music industry at any level is about relationships first and phenominal sounding music second

you know you have an following when you know 60-100 are gonna show up to see you...this is why its effective to play the group for a while.... 4 guys 15 friends a peice, thats 60 heads right there....and if you can impress those people they might all bring a friend next time....thats 120

and you'd be real surprised fast people standing a bar run to the stage when ur throwing blunts in the crowd....that weed snob shit disappears when its free, but if you got 250 to invest into a good show get a zip of some rip and roll that and throw it

I don't get the marketing. If the only reason they enjoyed your show is because you handed out joints that's the only reason they will come next time; and if that's the idea better off being a weed man then a rapper.
 
Just ran into a classic example of that good old seattle slew circle.
trying to do stuff as simple as photography can get tricky sometimes im gonna try and post this whole convo in a second.
