How do I assign samples to programs on a S3000xl

I had the cd3000i but its almost the same machine just a few buttons are a lil different on the cd. anyway i have had it for a week and i can chop samples on it but i cant find a way to assign the samples to a program so that i can use them in my music. How can I do that? I have been trying to figure this out for days with no luck. any and all help is appriciated.

Hook the sampler up to your pc with SCSI and download MESA from www.akaipro.com - you can do it all graphically on the screen. Once you got the SCSI hookup - you can use Recycle too to do your chopping. Plus you can save all your stuff on the PC & not use the sampler for storage.
 
I'd really like to learn how to do it on the machine itself just so I don't have any issues if my pc ever crashes. I also don't have a scsi for it atm but u can do midi dumps to recycle without scsi
 
hmmmm... do you have the manual? the 3000 manual is on akaipro.com website under support>archives

Im sure the principle is the same even though u have the cd .....

Im sorry i cant enlighten you specifically, i do all my akai rack programming through ak.sys or MESA (depending on which one im using)
 
I do have the manual but I'm not seeing anything covering that its like they totally skipped it.
 
Have you tried asking the question on the midicase mailing list? Thats the best source of free Akai unbiased information on the internet. You'll be bound to get an accurate, non-opinionated answer there :)
 
I got it woooo! All this time I was on the wrong midi channel and I had to assign it to a keygroup. The manual is written in a confusing way tho. There was no section on just assigning it I had to read thru a bunch of other stuff to find what I need. For those of you who may get this machine in the future the manual doesn't cover making programs very well. You have to overwrite the test program in edit program, then go into F2, select sample (F6), and u can select ur sample or up to 4 layers on that screen, also make sure while u r in that screen to go into span and set your keyspan for your samples. this machine is good and I am happy that I am getting along in it.
