Help me out with this melody!

Idea:
repeat original progression 3 times, then on the fourth time, instead of doing the same repeat, add a long held IV-V7 then resolve to I (G major- A dominant seven- back to D major)

Or switch to a different progression starting on a different chord. (B minor? the relative minor would be an obvious choice. Also G major)

Your biggest problem is you change chords very quickly but don't have very many of them, which means the whole progression is very short and repeats too many times in a short amount of time. Either add more chords or make the chords you have longer.
