GZA disses Soulja Boy and 50 Cent

50 appeals to the "I wanna be tough with muscles" side of people... like to people that would be apt to watch wrestling. People that like Rambo movies.

Kanye sells to kids because he used sounds that reminded them of Alvin and The Chipmunks...

Yeah, but 50 Cent is 32. Kanye is 30, and I think they will still be pushing albums in two or three years.

So maybe things are gtting better.

Yeah but Kanye, Jay and 50 are trend setters. GZA and alot of other old school cats are talented but they just dont got that swag to impress the masses, they just kinda goofy with it. They're still stuck in their era, they gotta transition. GZA, Rakim, and KRS 1, need to go holla at P. Diddy for a hip hop makeover.

I have to say this probably because the audience that likes the wu tang album in 97 grows up 10 years and has switched its feelings on the genre of music they listen to.

lol...Ghostface himself says he doesn't listen to rap anymore, he is an old school R&B dude now.

I feel him on that. I listen to everything now.

I love the soul of Earth Wind and Fire...the funk of Rick James...The political rebelliousness of old time rock artists. The only hip hop artist that still really carries emotion with it to me is Pac....but when your older you care less about "ridin' on yo' enemieeeeees" and stuff like that.

Hip hop will always have a special place in my heart...but its mostly teenager music...I'd rather not have to dig through 200+ songs to find one I like.

Didn't read the whole thread, just to clarify for my peoples, GZA's always had issues with 50. It goes deeper than rap sh*t, and goes back before 50 ever made any "real rap money" and got "rich". 50's been around forever made alot of real issues, but now when someone like GZA, Onyx, Ghostface, ect. have something to say about him from beefs going back a decade, people think they trying to make a come up off his name. Beleive it or not, GZA's rich, he's sold a sh*tload more records than 90% of the "current" hip hop roster will ever sell, and he never blew his cash on Bentley's and jewelry, people like Rick Ross, Plies, even Soulja Boy haven't made a tenth of what he's made, and floss 10 times as much, so you do the math.

Everyone else was pressing the "Soulja Boy issue", GZA never made him a target, the fans did,

GZA said fuyck soulja boy, naw he didn't make the target but he took the gun and shot at it. Ion even give a fuyck I just think its funny dudes wanna start celebrating cause he said the shyt.

if it wasn't for the wu, hip hop would not be where it is therefore eliminating 50 and soulja boy...

wu was not about marketing until they blew up, 50 blew up cause of marketing...note the subtle difference

Oh yeah, by all means, nothing to wild out about. A fan also said "f**k Kanye", he never even acknowleged that, but none of that was publicity stunt, just GZA being verbal about sh*t.

from wat i've heard

GZA pushed heavy units before the wu-tang days... under a different name.. i think it was like Justice Allah or somethin like that.. him and the RZA.. but the RZA wasnt workin wit him.. he was just like a street team type dude

im pretty sure i read that somewhere, or heard it from my boy

All these new artists like soulja boy are just hear for labels to sell ringtones. Soulja boy sold 2 million ringtones and only 170,000 albums in his first week (I'm surprised it was THAT high) but 2 million x $2.49 is 5 million dollars. You think labels care how much street cred he has? Nope!!! He won't be around in the summer of 08. Kinda' sad how rap artists are double platinum ringtone sellers but can't go gold off their album....and I seen that Soulja Boy's 3rd single is "Yahhhh" if any of you heard that you know what to expect. It is by FAR the worst song I've EVER heard. It makes "Crank Dat" sound like "Dead Presidents" if you haven't heard it. please download it...yea DOWNLOAD it...he don't deserve $.99 for that hot trash...

That is what I was thinking, because back then, artists could make money off of album sales (that was when people started taking their own publishing, and doing distribution, and there wasn't the downloading that happens today)...that ain't the case being on a label anymore. 50 Cent got his money through business investments (including his own), touring, and endorsements, not album sales...look at the back of his albums...for every logo or emblem on there, there is someone else making money off that 50 Cent album besides 50 and interscope.

There is a lot of money in the ringtone business. Producers need to get into that racket on the independent level if they aren't.

I seen J-Kwon's myspace page...OMG he fell of HARD!!!! he's a producer now, has a low budget video on his page where he sitting in a little ass house with a sample from A. Keys "Diary" and it features this no name white dude rapping in the kitchen wit the faucet right in front of the camera and his face...its just sad. Google for his myspace and look at that goofy sh!t....and he had the nerve to say he lookin for interns, models, producer, singers etc. to build up his label "Hood Hop Musik" that nigga just need help...

anyway, gza apologized for cussin soulja boy, realising his son was the same age.
now im waiting for soulja boy to apologize for cussin my ears!

soulja boy move about 415,549 unit so far and we still have chrismas and the rest of the tour he on with chris brown and bow

and all them bad ass lil kids are going to love yahhhhhh

Step into the arena... expect carnage.

Damn, I actually read all this sh!t.

To me... it's fair game. If you think there's a difference in being 17 with an "explicit lyric" content warning vs a 30 something cat... with the same warning... you're on some BS(Lil Wayne was a good example of this crap). This isn't Schooly D calling out Kid N Play. You want to put out suggestive material... get ready to get called to task youngin'.
It's the same for these oversexed R&B and club joints. Sure they get airplay, but if cats want to be real with it... they wouldn't want their 12yr old daughters singing 90% of this crap.
I've said it before... hiphop has abandoned the 16yr and below crowd. You have a bunch of knuckleheads, getting on these joints... and more than half of their lyrics... don't even apply to them. C'mon... you have teenagers, making references to the adult club life... what club is letting their little young asses in?!
This is where real decision making at these labels need to be responsible to the listening audience. You don't hear of this type of marketing in other genres.
I'm telling you... it's not a bunch of old hiphop heads being salty... it's hiphop heads with kids, that remember when the material addressed us and grew up with us. There's a reason why mf's like R.Kelly find themselves in deep sh!t... simply because of ADULT SH!T AROUND THE KIDS.

Damn, what does a cat have to do? Rely on KIDBOPZ or some Mickey Mouse Club crap?! We can find better examples than trying to defend Souljah Boy. It's hard to find young hiphop artists that aren't heavily influence by... a 20 and over crowd as it is. Kids need to represent themselves... and the adults should encourage that and also be protective... or hiphop will suffer.

I'm curious... what do hiphop cats (with kids) let their children listen to?

uh oh we just got told off by the grown up!

lol

nah seriously i feel you there. i wouldnt want my little brothers/cousins catching on to certain songs til a little bit later.

i was a lil jarred when my friends 7 year old (at the time) daughter was singing "my lovely lady lumps, my humps, my humps, my humps"!!! wtf?!!!

sex, drugs, violence, guns sells! labels are not going to start getting responsible anytime soon imo. they stand to lose to much. it goes back to my arguement about labels pushing the lowest common denominator because its the easiest sell. labels give people what they think they want not neccessarily they need.

Stop blaming the music for YOUUUUUU being a bad parent. Why can't I listen to songs about ass & tits because u have kids.
