U WANNA KNOW WHO ARE D.I.C.K.S.?

MARS MUSIC!!!

Yup, I had a bigger problem with them than I have with Guitar Center. Their return policy was the worst. Although, their store layout was pretty neat. But for some reason, Mars Music decided to leave California, but guess what store took over the lot after Mars moved out? You guessed it: Guitar Center. Maybe the building is haunted or something...

Mars completely shut down. their overhead was waaaayyy too high. they didn't hire musicians and real gearheads, they hired pretty much anyone who wanted to clerk sales all day long. the stores were really awesome, i have to give them that. the layout was massive and they had some really great gear there.

most of the time, GC would open a store right near a mars and...well..the rest is history.

Well, the GC in New Orleans is the pits. There are a few good salespeople there who are nice, but generally they're useless. On at least four occasions I've walked into the store fully-willing to spend several thousand dollars on a major system, only to be ignored or talked down to by an idiot salesguy who claims to be an expert and has no patience for anyone who doesn't agree with him.

I went in the store wanting to try the Akai DPS24. One day it's there, the next day it's gone. I am told they're no longer carrying it in the store by one of the people. Then a few weeks later, there it is in the store again, but the display model is only half-hooked up and all the demo songs are erased from the hard drive. The same thing goes for the Protools demo in the store - it's a joke. They also have 3-4 high end Avalon, Urei and Focusrite preamps in a rack that they leave turned on all day - I guess the lights look real cool and if you're cold you can go stand over near that part of the room. The store is a joke; many items have no prices on them, and I almost always feel I'm paying way too much for stuff and don't get any slack.

Maybe some GC stores are better than others, but the one in the New Orleans area sucks. As a result, I've spent more than $10k buying my equipment from Musician's Friend or other retailers and sites even though I wouldn't have minded paying a little more locally if I wasn't ignored or insulted by the GC people.

I feel you Mabu, the GC in Cleveland SUCKS as well. Ive heard that GC and Musician's Friend are the same company or at least the same warehouse or somthine like that. Anyone eles heard that?

Muscians friend is like GC's on-line store , or at least thats what I was told.

Yeah, they're the same people.

I will not go to GC in San Jose or San Francisco, just because it makes me insane contending with crowds of shoppers, kids banging on all the keyboards & drums while there inattentive parents ignore them, and idiot guitar wankers that crank up the Marshall's -even though they suck. It can really push me over the edge standing at the bar contending with the noisy chaos, not knowing if or when I will be acknowledged by the geartender.

I heard ya bout the kids, but hell, I go to the one in San Jose when I'm bored out of my mind and just kick it over there and talk to the workers. haha, I'd spend hours there like I was workin over there. Whatever though, interesting convos have been brought up and I haven't had a bad experience other than I didn't get any ****ING software with my digi002 rack I bought a month ago. I'm not in a rush to get it, but shoot, this thing's been sitting here. BTW, I have a PC that's why I haven't gotten to use this damn thing. I'm not blaming guitar center entirely because I should have read the side of the box stating it only came with mac software. Also, Digidesign digi002r didn't support PCs until PT 6.1. Hopefully my upgrade comes in the mail soon because I'm anxious to mess with my setup which include a motif rack. I buy almost all my **** over at Guitar Center because I practically get the cables for free. I dono if that's a bad deal or not, correct me if I'm wrong.

Cool cool. My bad experiences there were probably due to the fact that I could only get down there on a Saturday afternoon. Not the best day to go anywhere on Steven's Creek Blvd! Everyone in San Jose is shopping in that area on the weekends.

But you are right, you can get good deals there -especially if you have established friendship with the guys working there!

Musicians Friend is owned by Guitar Center, HOWEVER, they are not one in the same at all. we don't even stock all of the same products. both companies operate as seperate entities.

..it is odd though and quite confusing.

*UPDATE* I just called up digidesign, they said they're sending the software to me by friday!!! woohoo. haha, hopefully I don't get stuck in front of the computer screen any longer than I usually sit here because I have school. I'm ****in excited to get protools n ****. haha

I've had nuthin but great experiences at GC. I've become cool with one of the employees.

I take that back.. had a very bad experience yesterday  . Hopefully I can iron this out later this week.

hey, your location says "h-town"...i'm assuming houston...if so, send me a PM, i have a contact for you in a houston store that knows what he's doing. if it's a customer service issue, he'll hook it up mad style. if it's knowledge about dj gear, he'll get you the right person. please PM me and i'll get you set up. he works at the houston GC.

Sam Ash and Guitar Center serve one purpose for me: To test out the gear that I will then purchase on line. :D

Of course, I do spend thousands on accessories and stands and the like from the brick and morter stores.

Blade did u get my PM? what happend u get it? i wanna know! i woulda acted a fool!:bat:
