Anybody know if Groovetech went out of business???

I have tried to log on to their website for the last 4 days but can connect with it.

I heard rumours that they shut down business.

If that's true it really sucks because they had the best online store by far!

Can anybody confirm and can anybody recommend another on-line store?

This may not be true, but I heard that the Seattle site may still be in business, but the London part of it is down.

I love www.dancerecords.com . They're right in your state, and give free shipping on orders over $50.

Thanks for your quick reply DRC24.

I will check out the sight. Do you know of any other good on-line stores that specialize in electronic music?

I am mostly looking for Prog House and the store MUST have streaming of the tracks.

This is what made Groovetech so great. They had at least 1-2 minutes of streaming of each track.

Thanks for your help.

http://www.replayrecords.com uk though, very good selection, awesome service, highly reccomend, but very costly, uk stuff is more expensive b/c of the exchange rate and the shipping is outrageously high.

i just stumbled on them recently, may not have a lot of what you're looking for, but they do have a good selection and a few streams, not everything. (bad thing is they have everything bunched up in to a few categories, you gotta know the artists or labels pretty well, cuz everything is just thrown together for the most part, great selection though on a lot of older "classic" tracks though)

there are a couple good sites i used to use in the past, but they are gone now, so no use giving you those links.

mostly deeper/funkier house, but a lot of good stuff in there too.

http://www.hooj.com

hooj's online store, i know the label is dead, but that part of it is still open, HUGE selection, average prices and excellent service, highly recommend a plus.

They usually have the best stock of any of the online places I have been to. I have been able to pick up some old tracks from them.
Plus they have long sound samples.

satelliterecords is a joke

their customer service is weak, and i really dont see why we have to send them photocopies of our creditcard

first time i tried ordering from them, they delayed my order because they couldnt find the photocopies of my credit card that i faxed them... and when they finally did find it ALL my records had gone out of stock

so they gave me a promotional deal for free shipping...

i tried ordering another batch of records but they AGAIN asked me to fax them pictures of my credit card... i didnt want to go through the hassle again because i knew by the time they received the fax my records would have gone out of stock again

i usually use juno.co.uk

Yikes, I didnt realize that Satellite was still bad. I had some unpleasant experiences with the owner of the store when I lived in New York but that was 10 years ago. I figured that they would have straightened up by now  and the guy running the Boston store seemed alright. Oh well. They have a lot of stuff I am looking for...

I also know some of the folks at Dance Records because they used to work in shops near where I currently live. All the ones I know are really nice folks. My orders through them have gone well but they dont have as much stuff as Groovetech or Satellite.

I still cant find any local shops that I can reliably special order from. I guess I need to be a bigger customer.

I will have to keep looking around...

"Internet Music And Media, in which [Ron Wood] is a 7.6 per cent share holder, is shutting it's Groovetech arm, an online store supplying music on vinyl to DJs. Groovetech never made a profit, said IMM, adding: 'We are assessing the impact of the closure on Groovetech LLC, our US subsidiary.' "

"Shares in IMM shot up to £286 million shortly after its flotation valuing the company at 106million. Recently it reported a full year pre-tax loss of 1.7 million for 2002, down from a £12.2 million deficit in 2001."

Can't believe...

That they're gone! Even the London one! They had the best
broadcats and archives anywhere. Didn't even get round to
recording the Charlie Hall Projex shows.

bad news

hate to confirm the bad news, but it does seem as if groovetech has bitten the dust.
i bought all of my vinyl from them, and spent alot of time just listening to the broad spectrum of music they had available.
i will surely miss them.....

It's been about a month now and it still hasn't sunk in. Their closing hits really close to home for me. Not only was Groovetech my main source of recs but, I am friends with quite a few of the people that worked there. My weekly is alongside one of the founding members and it really sucked to see him watch his "baby" close down. He's recovered better than I think I would have. Fortunately, I was able to play on the website a few times before it closed down. It was then that I truly came to appreciated how big Groovetech was. In the booth they had a computer and while you were spinning you were able to chat with people all over the world. I chatted with people from all over the U.S., Mexico and Europe. There was even a guy from Africa that tuned in every week. Truly global. Groovetech was definitely a feather in the cap for Seattle (and London). Definitely a shame.

This kinda news bums me out. The signs are grim.

Hooj is finished.
GrooveTech closes.
I have ZERO electronic stores in my hometown.
Paul Johnson loses his leg.
...

Conspiracy.
