Grado DJ200 v. Nightclub E v. Whitelabel

I retranslated that german forum with google and it appears that his problem was that his TTX s-arms were not the same length, not that they're a different length than the technics. That would be a problem. Since I know the anti-skate obviously does something on my TT-200's, my tonearms are the same length, and I have a cartridge protractor to set it up correctly...then I guess I will go with the Grados. If they sound significantly better than the Nightclub E's and the Broadcasts are just a modified NCE, then the Grados should still sound better than both. I can't imagine they'd track any worse than the 500al II's.

Well just for the record I went for the Stanton 680EL II's. I heard too many conflicting things about Ortofons (bright, bassy) and the Grados (bad tracking, dry treble, Grado keeps changing it and now uses a spherical diamond) that I decided to go with the tried and tested classic rave cart. Supposedly the only DJ needles that sound better than it (and track worth a darn) are in reality the discontinued 680SL and 681SE carts. So it's in good company.

p.s. I did try to get the Broadcast E's, but they're just too hard to find. And the guys on wavemusic.com convinced me there's no way a little difference in needle suspension is going to fix the Ortofon's sonic quirks.

Reticuli...I just returned from vacation and saw this thread.

The Broadcast cartridges are in fact the same as the Nightclubs but w/a different color stylus assembly, as Peasant Nikon stated. Perception to the contrary, that is in fact the case.

They were introduced some 10yrs ago to target radio stations, thus the nym. Radio stations in the U.S. are mostly digital now and rarely use vinyl so there was no market f/them here. Additionally, they were at exactly the same price points as the NC's, so our DJ dealers did not want them. Same w/ the twin packs. They are double the price of the single kits, no savings,so again, our dealers wouldn't order them.
(took me almost a yr to sell off 50 ea of the twin packs, at steep discounts, in ea model!!)

That's why we don't import them into the U.S.

Lastly, the contact problems have been mostly resolved in the last several yrs by the use of rounded ends vs the old flat ends, and the coating/plating has been modified.

However, keep in mind that this mounting system (called SME mount) is a weak link system f/DJ use, as discuused in many prevoius threads on this board.

Hope this clears up some of the "myths" f/you.

Wow, thank you so much for posting. Lot of incorrect information out there about the Broadcasts. Now I don't feel so bad.
