i remember there was an emulator to make your drums crunchy that someone posted a minute ago but i can't find it...

also, the snare in "Lost in the World" on kanye's new album, and the snare on "Young Forever" by jay z, it's like a distorted static snare...anyone know anything about how to get that sound, or anything?

Distortion or bitcrush.

Try CamelCrusher its free.

any distortion vst will do what u r looking for or get yourself a sampler and get that sound the real way

obv i have a sampler..."getting that sound the real way" is my question.

this is usually achieved from an asr 10 or a mirage EPS or ensoniq sampler. ANYWAY ITS CALLED 12 BIT Low Grade Sampling. Re Sample a snare in a low shitty quality.

Kanye West uses a Mpc 2000 for drums and you can Re Sample in the machine all the way down to 12 bit etc even 6 bit depending on what youre using.

typo I meant get a 12 or 8 bit sampler to get that real crunch. U may have a soft sampler idk but getting that sound from software vs getting that sound with software are really different sounds.

How do you change the bit rate on a Mpc 2000? I have a 2000 and I have only been able to change the sample rate from 44.1 to 22hz. Granted it helps. I also wonder the same about the ASR10. I thought it didn't have variable sample rates and that only the EPS series did. I don't have a ton of ASR experience.

the standard variable bit rate is 44100 hz even on software its the same. 8000 and 6000 hz is also an option. and thats 8 bit and 6 bit 12000 is 12 bit.

Page 96/97 In the manual Re-Sampling

Go To The Trim mode

Select SND

OPEN WINDOW

CONVRT

RE-SAMPLE

Select next

NEWBIT options are 16 12 and 8 bit

KEEP QUALITY IN THE RIGHT HAND TOP WINDOW ON LOW AND MAKE SURE YOUR NEW FS ALSO MATCHED YOUR BIT RATE 12000 = 12 bit 16000 = 16 bit etc... AND RENAME SOUND ACCORDINGLY

Have Fun

i also forget how to do it on the asr 10 ive recently sold my asr 10 and my ecsoniq sampler keyboard. The asr 10 and ensoniq are stock 12 bit

Bit crush/grunge.

There is a filter on my mpc1000 called bit grunger that brings the sample to 12 bit. Nice and crunchy.

Cool trick Ill look into that with the mpc. Also the Ensoniqs are stock 16 bit except for the eps classic which is stock 13 and saves to 12. At least thats what their manuals say

yeah youre right its actually 13 bit but you can bring it down to 11.2kHz to 44.6kHz

i'm loving this feedback....thanks everyone

i have logic....the exs24 doesn't seem to be able to sample 8/12/16 bit, but i don't even play my drums through the exs anyway bc it sucks the life ut of them. i rewire them with reason and set up aux audio tracks for each sound.

anyone know an effect i can bus them all to that converts the bit rate? i guess i'm looking for something similar to Re Sampling on the mpc like you guys are talking about

I think what you may be refering to is the FX2100. An SP1200 emulator plug in. Not sure where you can get it now but im sure google can find it for you.

can you do this on the mpc 2500?

Having hardware that samples, and a few of the plug-ins as well, I agree. The plug-ins are not accurate in emulating the sound of the originals.
