free sequencer

right now i'm combining lmms and audacity to make my tracks.
i mostly use lmms to get sounds, but i do the final arrangement on audacity.

i was wondering if i could substitute audacity with some other DAW.
audacity is good because i can modulate volume, which makes fading in and out / changing pitch easier than lmms, but it can't do modulation on cutoff frequencies or change flanger settings as far as i know.

is there a free software that lets you draw automation like ableton live?

don't know about it being like ableton but check out reaper - free to try with an unending demo $60 to buy once you decide you want to be legit

Maybe look into a free editor/sequencer like Kristal Audio Engine or Ardour.

i've installed reaper for now, since it has a modulation envelope that i can draw in (apparently)

reapers pretty good with a handful of vsts, even if only using the demo
