Right...a WORKstation...which would imply the focus is on the WORK...aka the performance of the machine.

It's not positioned as a SYNTH

So, let me get this right.

MC starts hyping their product on their page and through various people almost a month ago. They tell us all a release date a couple weeks before the launch and keep hyping. Then on the day of the launch, they do a ustream of the live release and put all the products info up on their site. IT'S GO TIME, BABY!

But they don't even have one product complete and ready to ship yet?

Huh?

^ wow.....

That would fight right in at a club...but that is not why I said wow

That's exactly what it is, and exactly what it's for.

Imagine that thing in the studio, working your faders and vst's etc. Like I said VIRTUAL CONSOLE!!

Hell, I might rent mine out to the DJ's I know!!

Victor just left Open Labs 4 months ago. So this company went from NOTHING to product in 4 months. That's pretty phenomenal.

And all of these things are built by hand. If you order something from Open Labs, you're not gonna get it the next day. It takes like a week to build/test, etc.

Ok... the owner missed the boat on this one.

As stated before people are using cracked software and aren't trying to spend $1000's of dollars (Mr.Wong if you are reading this sell just the casing with the keys and pads and let people configure or build their own systems... still keep it as one of your services though). Look into replacing the metal case with plastic (for cost savings to both you and the end customer). Thermoforming maybe the best means of mfg'ing the part (I'm not sure of what tariffs maybe incurred but China is very cheap compared to producing it in Texas... If it is a patriotic sentiment I'm sure there are some facilities in the states that could do it as well).

I've owned a casio, triton, motif, fantom, roland-xp 60, mpc, roland drum machines, digi-002, several daws mac and custom pc's I've built, eureka pre, avalon pre's 737 & 747, sure mics, neuman mics, marshall mics, and various software from cubase to logic (pc)... and you know what, I sold it all.

I've found that the romplers get dated very quick and doing custom envelope tweaking is a pain (especially when updating or back-dating the o.s). Propeller head and F.L. were on to something. The neko was something I had thought of... well not the name but the concept. Then a few years after the neko hits the market.

If I could have the owner's capital that he's investing into this venture I'd produce a greater ROI (compared to what is being offered). I've got ideas/designs & the ability... just not the financial part yet.

The iKey dock is pretty neat though (I like how he stayed with the apple branding...lol).

Too bad he lost all the software with the sale of the company (I wonder who coded all of it).

I could see a few universities and high end studio's investing in some of these products though.

Appears to be a quality product... best of luck!

It's not positioned as a SYNTH.

The whole draw to a machine like this is that you can load up whatever you want to, and still have everything all in one. Simplicity, functionality and power.

I never said it was positioned as a Synth, I said that the manufacturer is calling it a workstation. The play on words was clever, however, I am sure you knew what I meant. I meant a workstation as in the thought process of sounds, sampling, sequencing, etc all in one machine. All i said is that it is fair to question how something sound that is touted as having 8GB of sounds. Be fair playa, and act civil. Personal attacks are not needed, nor am I stupid and not know what "work" is

Chill out young'n, there were no personal attacks, and I wasn't calling you stupid, I was just clarifying.

Don't get caught up with these hating ass instigators, they'll steer you wrong.

Again, I was just clarifying the point that the emphasis is on performance, functionality and work flow, not so much on sounds. 8GB of sounds is not a whole lot, and I wouldn't expect some super dope library of the coolest sounds you've ever heard. Because those type of sounds come in VST's that run $500 or better.

So I was just setting expectations...Nothing I said was meant to be an attack...mere clarification.

Naw, I am not trying to start nothing, just giving my opinion, and as far as youngin...:p....I am 34!

I doubt these posters are going to persuade my choices.

Hey troup

What is the difference between the studioBlade and the idock? will they have the same pre-sets in them? What are the differences between the two???

The iDock provides your keyboard, mappable faders, buttons, knobs and pads, your audio interface, DVD Burner, b&w keys, additional storage and sounds.

It's for those people who work from laptops, but who also want all the functionality of the separate components. Basically everything but the computer.

People wanted a Mac Solution from open labs forever, and this enables them to have it, since Mac-Compatibles don't exist anymore, and Apple will never make anything like this.

The StudioBlade is all of that, plus the computer. I could have gotten the iDock and been just fine, but the Studio Blade has more power than any of my current computers.

troup why dont u sponsor a mexican with that miko or donate to the nfka national fat kids of america trust ill put that to good use

I'm already sponsoring mexicans...next month when they come do some work on my studio!

I don't understand the logic in this thread. What is the point of you all arguing with this dude Troup? He's made it very clear that he's seeking/involved in some sort of endorsment or partnership with this company...do you expect him to bad mouth the product with you?

Regardless of any logical points you may make about it being overpriced, unnecesary etc...he's not going to agree with you! If you were working on a sponsorship deal with McDonalds, regardless of how you really feel, you're not gonna agree on a public forum that the flame broiled taste of BK is better, lol.

Personally, I don't think the product is worth the money being charged. But you people fail to realize that this is a company, and as such is in the business of making money. Sure we all could build our own rigs for much cheaper, but if MC sold their product for only the combined cost of it's components, how would the company stay in business?

If you look at any electronics, nine times out of ten the finished product is going to be priced significantly higher than the price of the parts used to assemble it. This is a niche product, for those who don't mind spending the money on "convenience"...hell, some people just want things like MiKo's for the "ooo" factor and exclusivity.

Either way, companies like OL and MC sell products based on the premise that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Simple concept.

Never said that. I said relationship. There's definitely a difference.

And the same thing happened when I bought my Miko. People got mad for some reason.

Still haven't figured that one out...

And then Open Labs got mad cuz I bought one of these joints, and snatched me down off the website. No goodbye head nor nothing!
