So this laptop dock, I'm curious as to what it does that you couldn't do just hooking a midi keyboard up to a laptop.
Controls with Feedback: Built into each iKeyDOCK are Music Computing's ControlDAW™ midi controller and GeoMIDI™ midi mapping software. ControlDaw presents the user with four (4) banks of eight (8) plus one (1) master channel strips each with three (3) mappable encoders with LED indicator light rings, one (1) knobs for panning, solo and mute buttons and a high-quality fader. An 8X8 grid of lighted pads (64 total) is also provided that can be used as drum trigger pads, a Monome (with appropriate software) or as a trigger pad for sequences, etc. Controls for note-repeat enabled software and transport buttons are included as well as real-time feedback between the controllers and software making ControlDAW the ultimate midi controller for music production.
Hear the Difference: The standard configuration for iKeyDOCK include a 24bit-48 kHz audio I/O with two (2) combo XLR & ¼” mic/instrument 48V phantom power inputs, two (2) balanced outputs and a stereo headphone jack. The optional upgrade gives you a 24bit-96 kHz audio I/O with two (2) combo XLR & ¼” mic/instrument 48V phantom power inputs, six (6) ¼” balanced inputs (line-level), two balanced outputs and a stereo headphone jack. StudioBlades also offer Firewire ports in the event outboard audio I/O or other Firewire devices are needed.
Play That Sample: Music Computing’s TriggerGrid™, included with each ControlDAW, is a sample player that allows the user to trigger sampled sounds via controllers such as the ControlDAW or ControlPLAY™. Unlimited number of banks each containing sixty four (64) samples can be loaded and played. Per pad controls included: Frequency, Attack and Release, Gain, Pan and Reverse. Per pad wave editor allows for simple drag to trim/truncate samples. 16 – audio outs for use in a DAW. File formats include: wave and mp3. Save feature allows all 64 pads to be saved as a kit. Unlimited number of kits can be saved that can be instantly loaded for playback. Simple drag and drop interface to populate pads.
MIDI map presets: Music Computing’s GeoMIDI™ MIDI mapping software provides an interface for changing the MIDI assignments of the ControlDAW and ControlPlay’s buttons, knobs, and sliders. Each slider or knob can send out a variety of combinations of control or pitch-bend data. An unlimited number of MIDI map presets can be created, saved and loaded for use.
For me a huge touchscreen is mostly a gimick and i would get more out of just spending that money on outboard. I would like to check out their boards to see whats up with them, though
I took a real good look at all the products, and I will say this
Production hardware daws - - - - ->yay
(thats if they come with a decent interface, it looks like firestudio mobile, but I cant confirm) (i would say thats an alright deal)
Yes, that is the FireStudio Mobile.
Studioblades and ikey dock - - - -> ripoff
($200 extra for a 1tb wd hard drive (7200rpm), pull ya new egg lenses out and dont take my word at all lol) (and 175 for a 10 in/outs, must be a delta 1010 which is $150 (new), 165 with s&H, which would explain why they only offer i5's instead of the i7's (delta's rarely get along with the new i7's lol)
You can open up the unit and put an additional hard drive in it. That's what I'm doing, but not everyone knows how to do that. So hard drive for $100, plus installation and configuration for $100...that's industry standard.
The upgraded joint is the Fire Studio Mobile...$300. You can upgrade the processor if you like, and you can upgrade the RAM as well.
Plus you have the custom VST's that they developed to work with the 64 Pads (Monome). Then you have the custom software to map the banks to the midi controllers.
And you have that all in one unit. And it's 64 bit. And it's like $1200 less than the competition.
What more do you want??
And the touch screens, thats a dif subject i wont dwell into, because we know monitors depreciate like computers lol.
Everything electronic depreciates. EVERYTHING. There's NO WAY AROUND IT. So what are you saying??
I was actually hyped about this, but it doesnt really benefit me, my computer runs circles around their flagship for days lol.
So I dont think this is any better or worse than openlabs.
Okay, so what exactly is your PC? And remember, you can't have EVERYTHING in a unit and still fit in a certain price point. You can't have STEAK for SPAM prices.
You people kill me.
I'd just as soon build my own PC. I'm also not a fan of Intel.
Why would you get rid of the Miko and replace it with the link you posted?
The RAM, Processor, and HD are the same. Are you really going to trade in just to impress clients? I know that it would be cool to have but idk maybe I'm missin something.
the Miko is a Core 2 Quad 2.4 Ghz. The StudioBlade is an i5. Very similar in performance.
The Miko is 32 bit, Windows XP Home, and 3 GB of RAM. The StudioBlade is 64 bit, Windows 7, and 8 GB Ram.
I have a 1TB Hard Drive that's in my Miko that I'm going to put in the Studio Blade.
The Windows 7 64 bit and the 8GB of RAM makes it KICK THE MIKO'S ASS.
That's why I'm upgrading. Because theres' NO WAY for me to upgrade the Miko to Windows 7, 64 bit. I've been asking for it from OL for the past year, and they haven't put any priority into doing that.
So that's why I'm switching.
Funny thing tho. I talked to Open Labs yesterday, and they said that they were doing a webcast on Friday to announce Upgrade Options, so that older OL models could be upgraded to the new Gen6.
Too little, too late.
Plus, the biggest factor is establishing a new relationship with a new company. I'm the first one out the gate. I'm getting the VERY FIRST UNIT. I'll be the first one demo'ing it on youtube. I'll be the first one that everyone comes to to check it out.
First mover's advantage.![]()
Ya I guess 64 bit is becoming a priotrity now, I thought I saw that the Studio Blade was only 4GB though. But yeah I understand.
I'm gonna go ahead and guess you are not endoresed by Open Labs anymore?
