FL Studio hi hat question

when i layout a row of hats, i try to select just a certain section like maybe 2 of em to chop up but it wont let me select just those 2, it makes me select the whole row, ... i dont know how to solve this problem and its buggin me, ... any of yall know how to fix it?

in the piano roll look for the button up top that looks like a dotted box, pick that then you can highlight the hats you want
