I have FL Studio 6XXL Producer edition. I only have the demo version of beatslicer on it. Where can I get beatslicer and or beatcreator and what versions do I need, because I have an older version of beatcreator, 1.0 I think, and the file types have changed or something?? It doesn't seem compatible, said I need the newest version. Thanks.

Where did you order FL Studio 6 from because when you order from their website, there's option to add BeatSlicer which costs $35.

Also BeatSlicer 1.2 is the latest version IIRC.

Also ImageLine is selling JuicePack which comes with IL Edison. But the cost may not be what you want to spend considering that all of the plugins except IL Edison come with the edition of FL you're using.

You can see IL Edison below.

I got the copy off ebay. Is there any big differences between beatcreator and beatslicer? I've heard beatslicer is the lite version, if so does beatcreator have anything else that makes it worth checking into. Thanks.

Yes a huge difference and afaik BeatSlicer isn't even maintained anymore. BeatSlicer is simple and does the job so there's really non cons about it other than the look but I think the look of something is moot when the features suffices.

You can check out what both are and aren't at www.beatcreator.com

I'm just looking for something to slice up and organize beats that is fairly easy to understand and use.

You can use fruity slicer. Go to Channells>Add One>Fruity Slicer.

No. Fruity Slicer doesn't allow creating slice markers. All it does it allow to generate slices based on like 1/2 beat, 1/4 beat, beat, etc... but there's nothing allowing for manual intervention. You have to use BeatSlicer for that or any slicing tool.

yeah man, you can go up to the little LCD like screen in the fruity slicer, right click on it and hit split slice and you cna manually make chops, you can't zoom in so you cant get super accurate but for smaller samples it works

Well I stand corrected but that sounds like it'd be cumbersome. Plus named slices are what I enjoy.

Edison is the best (emphasizing: THE best) tool for sampling, slicing... in fact for any type of sample mangling.
I don't get why everytime it's mentioned here on FP (even with a nice screenshot! :D ) people just ignore it and keep on talking about beatslicer/creator/recycle whatever... LOL. ^^

Even though Edison night be included in a future version of FL for free, I had to buy the Pack. Edison is just too well integrated in the program. No more need to save sliced beats to the HD, switch programs, load,.... Drag'n'drop works like a charme from/to Edison. It's just nice working with it.

Just what I wanted to hear. Someone who has it and answered an important question. I was wondering if you didn't need to save to HD first. Thanks.

ionno, phatmatik pro can give u pretty crazy features, i would like to try out edison however

Of course you'll have to store the samples dragged from Edison to your track somehow afterwards (you don't need to though), but you don't need to bother while you're making music. On the fly sampling stuff & dragging it to your project just hmmm... WORKS. :)
I always save my songs as zipped loop package. This way I keep every sample used + the .flp in one file.

This just works for samples you drag out of Edison though; then a copy of the sample is automatically stored. If you just intend to sample stuff and keep it within Edison you'll need to store it the old-fashioned way (File->Save...)

Do all the above mentioned programs (Edison, Beatcreator, Beatslicer, Phatmatik pro) work well for speeding up and slowing down samples. I'm having trouble matching up the tempo of the sample to the tempo of the project I'm working on.

You can easily speed up/slow down sample in adobie audition.. its called time stretching its good because it will try and keep the pitch as close as posible.

First off, Edison looks and sounds incredible, I still have yet to upgrade to FLS 6.

What you describe to me is that maybe you need to use an Audio Clip channel.

You can then draw/paint the wav form under the patterns in the Playlist Editor.

You can then chop the sample with the BoxCutter tool, just change the snap to where you need it, if you need free control, just use none.

It might work better.

How do I use something like Phatmatik Pro in FL? Sorry for all the questions I'm kinda new to all of this. The help is greatly appreciated.

well phatmatik pro is a VST so you have to go up to channels then add one then VST...
and to the dude above talkin bout timestretching, i think the FL Slicer is the BEST for that, you cna time stretch and pitch change seperatly in there and its all available right away to preview in FL studio, all you gotta do is press play you know, dont gotta bother saving a timestretched version and a non timestretched version and testing around, and the independant part is pretty tight, sure u can do all that in adobe audition or soundforge, but its very convinient to do it right in FL Slicer, and i'm sure (correct me if im wrong Sqito) that Edison can do the same, since it was created by Image-Line, it should have all the good features of the FL slicer

Ok slowly, but surely I'm getting this. One more question. I've dropped a beat into fl slicer and sliced it up and now I have some pops or clicks inbetween some of the slices. Is there an easy way to get this out or is this because it's not sliced right on the beat. Thanks.

As slicers go, the one in FL is about as weak as you can find. FL is an excellent application, but they have a working relationship with the company (Zero-X) who's engine powers all their slicing and stretching. What that means is probably that FL can't have a serious slicer because it would conflict with it's relationship with Zero-X. Beatslicer, BeatCreator, FL's Fruity Slicer, the built in wave editor, and most likely Edison all are "powered" by Zero-X's slicing and stretching engine. FL's Fruity slicer will stay weak because if you want real slicing power, FL is pointing you in the direction of purchasing BeatCreator or Beatslicer. I'm personally a big fan of BeatCreator. It's hands down the best slicer you can find anywhere. It's more than a slicer though. It's also a multi-track recorder/sequencer. It can open and save soundfonts and also save to a multitude of different formats. It makes Recycle look like the Fruity Slicer.
