Ok, yall guys talk about EMINEM being the greatest lyricist.....Well hes not...he has no flow......he knows how to put complicated metaphors together,,,,,but we all forget about FLOW....NAS isnt the best lyricist either...........his flow is boring.....J-Cole....flow is boring/./

So I wrap this up just to say this OUTKAST is THE GRETEAST lyricist of em all LIVING.....The best group lyrically, and apart they still on flow..........Go listen to SOUTHERNPLAYALISTIC and ATLIEns now that ur older.....some true GEMS.

in my smokey voice: don't you eva, eva, eva eva eva post up another thread again

I am speechless right now you act like putting complicated metaphors together is a simple task.I will agree that Andre 3000 is in my top 5, but to flame 2 of the greatest rappers ever is beyond me.

Well, rap is subjective and ATLiens is a top 10 favorite album of mine, personal and artistic reasons. So I won't knock you for the Outkast praise. I can't agree that Nas has a boring flow, it's very diverse, multisyllabic, poetic, and intricate. From his oldest material to current. To me Em's best days(98-02) are behind him, but he's still no slouch. I don't mind you calling out Em though, he's not a fav rapper of mine, but there's nothing worse than when I try to have a legit hip-hop conversation then the person says eminem is the greatest, but the retard never heard a rakim or g rap song before. jesus christ.

... and people have to realize that Rakim and G Rap had no one to study.

They were the blueprint.

It's not that hard to mimic / borrow what you've heard and tweak it for yourself.

It's hard to be the first ones to do it.

Yes, Rakim and G Rap will always be 1 and 2 interchangeably.

is the OP stupid. flow and lyricism are two different things. lyricism is basically your wordplay, rhyme scheme, multies, and punchlines. flow is basically how you flow and string your words together as you rap. em has both flow and lyrcism. outkast is great but you better recognize talent when hits you. both em and outkast are in my top tier

Can't argue with that. G Rap is one of the most underrated of all time.

Oh ya, Big Daddy Kane is also one 1st to flip it.

To the OP: :sigh:

agreed. I had to include them in my post about nas relating to what OP said. kind of like saying, well greg nice and kurtis blow could flow, but the wording and structure was elementary as hell(aa-bb simplistic and predictable). nas writes complex, and his ability to deliver those elements on beat with breath control give him points. his lyrics and schemes boost his flow. not arguing, they are different aspects of the craft, but not exactly parallel.

Em and Nas are two of the greats.
G Rap and Rakim are legendary too but as far as my top five they aren't in it.
Don't get it twisted though Giacana, Kane and Rakim have places on the Ipod.
Still respect them for their contributions and ridiculous level of skill.
Definitely don't agree with this thread at all.

you're crazy if you think rakim just woke up one day and started rapping like a legend. i'm not even from that era and i know rakim was bitting dudes like fab 5 freddy and ll cool j and krs one...i'm sure someone who's actually from from new york can confirm this.

you don't think rakim used to listen to this shit?

I know you just didn't say this. First, did you ever hear Fab 5 rap? If you did, you would know that he was 1st generation, not full time, MC. Second, Rakim came before BDP so he couldn't bite them Krs-One. LL was around, but he couldn't do what Rakim could do, really complex compared to LL's stuff. Go watch Wild Style, then watch Beat Street, and maybe Breakin so you can at least know your basic history. The point was that Rakim, Kool G Rap, and maybe Big Daddy Kane were among the 1st MCs to demonstrate complex lyrical skills, ie moving beyond basic delivery. If you have to ask somebody, that means you don't know.

I didn't see the stetsanoic post initially, but now I know you're clueless.

so they just came out of nowhere?can't you hear that stetsa song?

So your saying Stetasonic is where Rakim got his flow from? Nobody said Rakim invented hip-hop, and yes there was an evolution but it's about key points in the genre's development and I've never heard anybody say stetasonic's flow was key to that evolution.

Outlasts FLOW is BETTER than EMINEM....the way theyre dielect during what they rap is better than EM
