There's something that I noticed about this board. This board hates successful people. We applaude when a Dre gets sued. We cheer if a Bad Boy release does poorly. Its hypocritical, because everybody on here would love to be in Dre's position or Puffy's. And the real life truth is that if you were in there positions, you would not do things the way you do them now. Cats get on here ranting about creative sampling, and how they take 3 weeks to do a beat, or whether the MPC is better than Fruity Loops, but if you was Dre, on an album of 18 cuts, you may have actually touched an MPC for one of them. Dre has NEVER been a "beat maker", even back in the NWA days. He has ALWAYS been a fader pusher. In addition to Mel Man, Dre got about another 10 beatmakers aka ghost producers over at Aftermath. That doesn't include tracks that he buys from freelance cats. When you reach that level of success, and you the level of demand that a Dre, or Puff, or Timbaland has, you ain't sittin in your room all day programing tracks on the MPC, Triton, FL, Reason, or whatever. FP's own Shondrae, if he got 10 albums to complete this year, I'd bet money that he ain't doing every little pad push, or key pound for every song that carries his production stamp on it. It don't happen.
Them cats ain't like us. The Jordans, the Iversons, the Bryants, they different than the rest of the league. We FP'ers, we collegiate players. Some of us are Division I, some Division II, and some unfortunately are Division III or Juco, but them cats is NBA All Stars. The best of the best. What may be laziness for us, is a means of maximizing productivity for them. And them boys make hits, consistently.
And another thing, the commercial vs. underground thing is a big f*ckin smoke screen. If you make a CD, and you trying to sell it, then your shyte is commercial. Plain and simple. If you making beats, and you want somebody to pay you for those beats, then your shyte is commercial. Stop foolin yourself. Dirty, clean, samples, synth, all that is a means to an end. If ya'll was really "underground", you wouldn't be having beats up on Soundclick. If you was really "underground", you wouldn't be having fresh new web links to your very mainstream digital websites. Stop fooling yourselves, and stop hatin on people who have reached a level of success that we haven't reached. I'm happy for anybody that does well, regardless of whether I like there music, or sound. I can't stand Nelly, or his tracks, but he doin it. He gets props from me.
You don't have to agree. This was my little soap box.
