LOL Drake better get his business straight....how you gonna say this and NOT be lying?

Kia told Drake's camp and all doubters to speak with the executives at Universal to verify his publishing rights.

"This is something I knew about for like eight months or whatever and I knew once the BMI Awards happened or whatever then the blogs and all that would do they thing," he told Yee. "He took the track, they re-flipped the track, the took the melody, the cadence and they took some of the words on that same 'Do It For The Boy' song...It's no issue with me or Drake, it's just the business behind it. Sometimes if a guy is that hot, it's just business. These things happen...It just so happened to be one of the biggest records of this year and it happened to be Kia Shine...You cannot fabricate me up in New York getting the BMI award for this record. You see the pictures, I got three awards for the record going number one...It's definitely a real thing. No disrespect, but if you just got a publishing deal and you Drake and you just got a nice piece broke off to you because you told this one company you own this record with this producer when it's not true...I know n*ggas don't want sh*t like that getting out when you're an artist, you're probably sensitive about your sh*t but it is a true statement and I will be receiving 25 percent of whatever that song makes. And that royalty check will be the best I ever had." (Team Yee)

25 % for a the cadence or melody and a few words that don't last more 4 bars. LMAO! This dude got 25% for a bridge. Good look on his part. Drake hasn't put his foot in his mouth yet. This shyt just seems funny.

I'm gonna say this people 50 cent ran into that issue with " Go Shawty, it's your birthday." And Pitbull had to give credit to people for that "Hotel Room". So it happens. I think 25% is a bit much. Kia is a bytch. Straight up. I been saying that for years. There's even a video of 3-6 Mafia clowning his bytch ass. The interview with Miss Info cleared everything up. Now we wait and see what Drake will do. Obviously he did not know about the deal. Cause that ain't nothing to lie about when the proof is in the pudding. As for recieving an award for it !!!!!! That boy Kia is a hoe.... it's 4 bars of cadence and melody that just happen to fit that one beat. You don't get an award for that shyt my nigga! TOO RANDOM. Yes I'm hating! Cause Kia trying to ride on Drakes wave. That motherfuker would have not got any attention if he would have not opened his mouth. He definitely couldn't make it on his own. And he could not even get buzz on his own to the like of this. I respect him getting his money. But he a hoe. He'll do what he got to do to see the dough and it doesn't matter if he has to compromise his dignity. Go find the 3 Six Mafia Video where they clown his ass.

FukBoy!!!!

I don't see why people mad at Kia shine. Drake interpolated a song of his. So Drake has to come up off some publishing and writers credit...

It's no different than sampling.

This is business. You sample, you pay. You interpolate, you pay.

What's the big deal??

This is BUSINESS, not fantasy land. Yall wanna believe that your favorite artist pulls all this phenomenal music from their ass...when it's actually multiple assholes contributing to the hot siht y'all are hearing on the radio.

You right on that end. P**ssies do business all the time. That's no question on the business side. But this nigga trying to ride off of it. This dude is suspect. That's what is wrong with this whole thing.
How many artist do you hear bragging about splits? Anybody whose in the industry knows that theres ways you handle yourself and when you get out that box, it's for your own personal reasons. He was trying to get spot light that's all.

Look I personally could never stand this guy. So I'm biased. The boy is a d*ckridering hizzzzzoe.

He didn't brag about it...

BILLBOARD GAVE HIM 3 AWARDS!!!!!!!

Billboard was bragging about it. People took pictures of him at the awards show, with the awards. Then people started talking about it. Then it started spreading...

Then he made a statement, and told everybody what was the deal.

He doesn't have to brag about it. The song credits have his name in the liner notes. It's PUBLIC RECORD.

Problem is, most people don't even buy music to be able to READ the credits in the liner notes, to even know what's going on.

Those who have an issue with what's going on...show their ignorance to the BUSINESS OF MUSIC.

Nevermind....

Credit given where due.

Still don't like that nigga, though.

Pitbull also had to give credit to a Dominican artist named El Cata for the "I know you want me, you know I want you" phrase

i dont no that much bout the business of music but i dont like how duke acted like he actually wrote the lyrics. @ 1st i didnt no, but after seeing the video he was truthful but very deceptive with his words. to the average fans or people who watch the youtube/worldstar video they prolly gon think duke claiming to write best i ever had. he could've easily just said they used my beat to sample it and im own 25% but by saying he wrote it, most people usually think of lyrics when it comes to writing. niggaz is grimey, doing anything for some shine.

funny part is i read the comments and dukes was saying stuff like i told you he was ill, he wrote for drake. this duke the truth, blah blah

LOL where you at where they said "duke" at? aint heard that in a minute...

anyway, I agree. Even though he is truthful and legit with his claims, he did word it kind of funny. In his interview he said he worked with Drake....but Drake claims he doesn't even know the guy

At first glance, I got the feeling he actually sat down and co-wrote the **** with Drake. Oh well, I bet Drake is pissed right now...

Thank you people making it sound like its Drake's downfall cuz when people hear "Drake didnt write best I ever Had" you assume lyrics and more specifically verses......

It isnt news that someone may have wrote the hook....or that there was interpolation in a song....Happens all the time. To make it sound like Kia Shine of all people was somehow able to write the lyrics is rediculous, misleading, and hurts Drakes reputation.....

So now that he admitted his limited roll in the actual CREATIOn of the record and his good business sense we can all see that this is actually NON news.....

I agree 100% and if anything ya'll guys should direct your anger at the people in the industry that make it common practice to capitalize off of other people creative output without proper financial and/or recognition and as the FREE mixtape world continues to collide with commerical radio and performance platforms this will become even more vital.

The fact that Drake is denying the 25% cut means either:

1) He's naive to his current business status and needs to learn the 'game' better before he opens his mouth

or

2) Knew what it was and try to 'save face' in the public by throwing out a false statement which if that's the case was a complete fraud move because and he should be called out on it end of story.

For those that don't understand what 'co-writer' means and jumped to the automatic defense of Drake just remember your IGNORANCE does not validate your position in the REAL WORLD....

It was the way he worded it. Nothing else. His explanation cleared things up, but felt like he went on the defensive. Not a good look.

Be careful with how you word things. But he knew what he was doing. I'm in the industry where interpolation happens all the time. So I understand the BMI and 25%. But I've never seen/heard anyone be so elusive with when it came to how to word things. Then turn around and almost taunt kid, with phrases like " I'm gonna get my 25%" or "It'll be the best I ever had." That's makes a guy like me not want to work with a nigga like that. Plain and simple. The dude's character is shifty for that reason. Don't care what you got to back what up. Have some fuking grace about yourself.

Plus he was fussing and defusing the bomb..

One minute he making statements where he is kissing Drake's ass

the next minute... he saying how he gonna get his regardless.

Who is he talking too? It ain't like the audience is effected by Drake loosing 25% of shyt.

It's all in principal. But if he came round me talking like that... he'd have to humble himself.

No the issue is Young Money NEVER paid Kia Shine and thought they could get away with taking 'pieces and bits' of a record and get paid without no compensation because it was on a 'mixtape' level. The problem is everything changes once the radio decides to put the record on high rotation and that's what the focus should be on because artist careers are being made off the FREE mixtape level (Drake, Gucci Mane, etc...) because money can be made from radio royalties as well as show performances and if you don't handle your business you will end up out in the cold with NOTHING while someone else is making bread off your creative effort.

Wayne and company figured that Kia Shine probably never did his paperwork behind the scene so they could get away with it but got caught out there and any producer/writer that supports that means they support being ripped off. Stop looking at this game through the eyes of a glorified FAN and start looking at it as running a business and you will be in a better position to make a living. I can tell you over HALF the current hit music you hear has a similar background like this, its just most people are sloppy on the paperwork and end up getting caught and can't go public because they don't have any solid proof.
