I am getting my tax return soon and I'm definatly going to buy something for my tables. I'm getting Ortofon Concorde DJs OR a new mixer. But I'm leaning more towards the carts right now. But here is my question..

I have three mixers in mind that I would like to get. Pioneer DJM-600, Numark 2002x, or that new Tascam X9 everybody is talking about. I know the X9 isn't out yet, and I know that the 2002x and DJM600 are totally different mixers. I mix mostly trance/hard trance/hard house. But I would like to learn a little scratching soon. Can you scratch easily with the DJM600? Or is it just a mixing mixer?

.... You can totally fly on the crossfader of DJM600... especailly with that slope adjustment. The fader is a little bit different than other "scratch" faders, though. You have to bring the fader out a little bit more before it starts cutting to the next line. But this doesn't mean that it doesn't cut with a quick slope. You just have to remember when you are crabbin' not to bring the fader all the way back. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you have to find the cutting point of the fader and get use to it. DJM600 is a great all around mixer with all that effects and all.

I don't know about the X9 because I have never played with it. But I'm sure that it is a great mixer base upon Tascam's reputation.

I owned a 2002x before but I was not happy with the quality. It is maybe good for the money, but if you can afford the DJM600, go with the Pioneer instread... 8o)

just a suggestion... use you tax return to buy wax... I know you pretty new at spinning and egar to learn/expand... i would say the best thing you could get is more music... the djm600 is a good mixer, i would recomend it down the line after you have mastered the basic skills and are going on to advance skills.. the dmj600 is filled with lots of new toys(effects) that my be a mind overload to a newbee... master the beat matching, then master the eq... then progress to the effects box...

as far as it goes for scratching... sure you can do it.. but its def not a battle mixer...

good luck

I buy enough vinyl as it is. I hardly have all my vinyl memorized anyway. And as I said, I'm most likely getting the new carts with my taxes. Nothing is a mind overload to me. I'm a huge computer geek too, so I can handle just about everything. =)

i think u should just buy the numark for now and once u have the skills move onto the x9 when it is launched. i think the DJM 600 is way over priced. The x9 is going to be a killer.

I'm definatly getting Ortofon Concorde DJs/Nightclubs. I probably won't be getting a mixer for a while. But who knows. I was definatly planning on waiting to see the X9 and hear some reviews..

Ok Verbal, go for the Ortofons, good choice. IMO the Nightclub has a better overall sound and it's definitelly better for recording cd's too. Sound Q is nicer than the DJ line, I guess. I own'em and use'em everywhere, at home and in clubs/gigs and they're very good for me. Great buy!

P.S. Hey Tricky, considering the built and sound quality I woudn't consider the DJM 600 overpriced at all. I may be starting a war here but IMO, in the bottom end it's comparable to a A&H or Rodec mixers, two of the top tables in the game IMO. I plan on taking mine to the grave w/ me, unless someone comes up w/ an offer to trade it for an UREI - THAT'S the best house mixer IMO (ok, it's too housey-style but, oh my, those wonderfully progressive buttons, those sexy looks, those sound... :D:D:D)

i favor the rane rotary in my opinion its the best house mixer.. i havent had any experiance with the A&H or Rodec mixers? rotary?

Alex ! I know u love ur 600 but hopefully the x9 will change that ! :D :D
I think the best house mixer is probably that vestax. i forget the model now.

I know its off topic, but I need to hear some things from ppl that own Ortofon Concorde DJs or Nightclubs. Preferably somebody that has used both. Which do you recommend? Cause at some local stores, the nightclubs are only $20-$30 more. Worth the extra $?

To Verbal: I used both Ortofons and now I always use the Nightclubs. They have a better sound Q in clubs and are better for recording cds than the Dj line (IMO), and they track fine enough, even for some good scratch!

Hello Tricky!

:D Ok, I'm waiting for the X-9, if it delivers the promissed it'll be a great piece for sure! But till then I'll keep my DJM 600 :D

The reason I love the UREI mixer and think it's the best house-style table is, besides the unbeatable sound Q, the progressiveness of its rotary knobs is spot-on for house/trance mixing. It's so damn good u can hear the difference in the line for the club's entrance! :D

Sure Vestax and Rane are fine (Rane has a 10 times better sound and built than Vestax IMO), but no one ever came close to duplicate the sound and sensitiveness of UREI. Hey, they all went after UREI leftover parts a few yrs ago, and not w/out a good reason! Rodec is good sounding and built like a tank, and A&H of Xone 62/64 fame is too (they are pro installation mixers, don't forget), but I don't like their layout, Rodecs look like cheap tables to me. Ok, I know we shouldn't prize looks but quality is quality Well, I say so but not based on hype, I heard them all and I believe in what I'm saying.

So the DJs track differently than the NCs? How much differently? Cause I want to learn some scratching. But I will be mixing mostly.

Verbal

Let's say that, unless u're planning on developing a full combo for a DMC turn, they should do more than fine for ur scratching needs. BUT, take notice: If u want needles to trash 'till u learn to scratch go cheap, and that's adviseable, so buy regular Stantons and save the buck. Ortofons are xpensive and u woudn't like to ruin u'r prized NC's would u? :D
