I dont know how i missed this topic. Its like 1 am here. Ill give u a run down on the dj 2000. i own one. Ill find someone to give u a run down on the 500. then u can decide.

Hehehe... got here too Trickmaster! I can't help too much about the dj2000 (used only a few times), other than say it's a daaamn fine mixer but Trickmaster will surelly help u here in a...hmmm... very deep and complete way :D I'll play devil's advocate...:D

The DJM, I own the 600 but spinned a lot using the 500 for it's all over the clubs and gigs here, everyone is pleased w/ it (club owners like it for it gets a lot of puishment and never needs an overhaul). My opinion on the Pio DJM 500 and 600 is, they are two of the best designed pro mixers ever, everything is so easy to get on it, no one could ever blame it for limiting operation or screwing up a mix for it's all in-your-face as it can be. That's number two for me, something intuitive to use. Even more when u consider the efx that both dj2000 and djm have, even Trickmaster will agree the djm is way easier to operate efx than the dj2000.

Number one is quality. Again, a damn good mixer from top to bottom, high (maybe not the highest but more, much more than enough even for them most demanding dj and sound engineer) quality parts and they didn't skip anything: long lasting faders and knobs, smooth as butta too, good and clear graphics, mic X 2 w/ eq control on main, phono/line switches, it just oozes quality all over.

Feature-wise, it's crammed w/ gadgets as: a considerable (although somewhat limited) number of usable efx, xfader curve selector (only djm600), split cue (powerfull cueing), multi-cue, cue-master PFL, very usefull individual AND master L/R channel level meters (loong, nice ones not a 4 led fake!), that not to mention the outputs and inputs. Ok, the dj2000 has midi controls, IMO it's nice to have them today...

The 500 looses a few bits & feats to the new 600, like fader curve control (I said that...), efx wet/dry and level control, some efx (not sure which one though) and the split cue, I think it's that. I'd have one or the other, just had a good deal on the 600.

Other than that, it's personal but I like the channel fader curves, the -26/+12 bd eq (well judged bandwidth range) and the sound quality, IMO it's better than Vestax and maybe just a tad bellow the top rigs from Allen&Heath and Rodec (other 2 top contenders mixer-wise), but to a level one could not easily tell the dif. And that's somewhat passionate ground so I'll finish here...:D

I hope it helps on the djm, it's my opinion but I've used a lot of mixers and I chose the 600 for the reasons and facts above!

Good luck and regars.

Ok my turn to get all sentimental about the dj 2000 ! :D ok lets see what you get when u choose a dj 2000. you get a 19inch mixer. 4 channels plus 1 fader channel for mic and another rotary knob for another mic. 3 band eq on every channel. +/-16db and the bandwith has been sorted out amazingly well. No longer will u get a crapy sound when u cut ur bass or treble. even the mids are spot on. you can assign channel one and two to the left of the crossfader and 3 and 4 to the right. there are transform buttons for performing transformer scratches and droppin samples. Id like to mention here that the transformer buttons feel really good. Its got a nice touch to it and responds well to fast stabs. The mixer comes with a standard crossfader, u might think of getting the scratch fader if ur into turntablism. Every channel has a green led right on top. This led is a "beat " led it glows green with ur bass notes. A simplified vu and beat unit in one is what i call it. It works good too. no problems about my levels at all.

Ok lets move over to the other sections of the mixer. namely the cue section. Each channel is assigned one button for headphone cuing. there is head phone volume and pgm/cue rotary fader for listenin to ur mix before u perform it. Additionaly the cue buttons send out that particular channel to the mixers dedicated sampler out . You can use and external sampler and dump samples at will by just hitting the appropriate channel buttons. Very nice feature. The mixer has an effects send /recv. Its got a three band master freq isolator. +12db/- infinte . U can produce some radical sonic changes. The issolator can be either on /off or set on grab which is like a temporary on position. U can grab eq changes according to the bpm of the track to throw a little flare into ur mix ! There is a master out led which doubles up as cue/master vu levels.

Now we move onto the effects ! My favourite part of the mixer !!!! The DJ 2000 has 10 effects ranging from filter, flanger, slicer, auto pan, Jao, voice transform, robot play, delay, overdrive-delay, overdrive flange . The effects can be BPM synced and also u can choose the frew band to effect(high, mid, low, all) The effects can be applied to an individual channel or on the master output. u can control the wet/dry mix of the effect. The effects when bpm synced can be applied at differing time intervals (1/4 note 1/32 note etc. ) This feature is the best thing ever about the mixer. There are three knobs that control the aspects of the effect being used. U have complete sonic hold on ur effects with these three knobs. I agree with alex about the effects being tough to use at first. After about 1 week of repeated trials u can create mean effects with no problem at all. I would highly endorse this mixer if ur willing to spend a little time experimenting with the effects. The mixer has a bpm meter that can be activated as an when necessary.

I bought the dj 2000 for the its awesome effects andthe ever present MIDI Start/stop. U can sync a groovebox or any other midi instrument that supports realtime system messages. U can sync the midi instrument with the bpm displayed on the mixer and u can even pitch bend the midi time clock to aid syncing the groove box with ur tts. Everytime the two drift just hit the key for either pushin or pulling the midi bpm and u have ur tracks back in sync. This midi bend feature has been incorporated in the mc 307 as a slider but the dj 2000 lets u go one step beyond that slider ! A truly well thought out idea !

whew ! that was a lot of stuff. Im doing a full review of the dj 2000 "crowd tested in India" ill complete it soon.

Now let us know which one u decide to get :D

HEy,
I just tell u to go to the shop and see the Limits of Bothe AASSS kickin Mixers in the world, for u're self, go there and see other play it, or just go to roland.co.jp for more info and http://www.pioneerelectronics.com for more info. but as my Experince, if u wanna groove through night u must buy Pioneer, but the orlan DJ 2000 is also not bad, but bothe are the same things, just the companies are different, there are 4 channed mixer in each , and same effects and real time , and u can also see the Numark EM360, it's also a good one, u can see it at http://www.numark.com. take a look and reply.

Id say the sampler is ok for quick drops and stuff. Im not in favour of samplers onboard the mixer itself.

Jiten:- U dont really need a particular mixer to groove all night long. If u got the skilz then thats all you will need :)

ah and another thing. the effects on the dj 2000 and djm 500 are similar . the dj 2000 offers more control for control freaks like me :D

The djm 600's sampler is 44.1 khz, 8 seconds and beat synced so just hit a couple of buttons ang off u go. It can do single samples, loop and time stretch also to match the beat of playing tracks. It's a high quality, live-set dj friendly sampler but it has it limitations yes, if u're in need of something more specific or featuring then go for a dedicated sampler, but the djm's aloow some tricks at ease IMO.

IMO u won't regret going for any one of them, but again my vote is for the djm... :D after all, when I had the chance I took one :D And hell Trickmaster, ur post on the dj2000 was very convincing, I almost regreted my choice :D:D:D

Kee'playin!
