Lol I only listened to hip hop and r&b of the day as I got older. When I was young it was all 80s rnb (this was in the 80s) I grew up on G Funk in the early 90s and with the exception of biggie and wu tang didn't mess with much eastcoast hip hop until its hard and hell is hot. I didn't hear illmatic until 2005 or Reasonable Doubt until 2003 #crazy

I hear you. I can't say anything. I was the same way. I was big into the West Coast/G Funk sound because I followed whatever my brother was listening to. My first memory of hip-hop was getting in trouble for walking around the house singing Me So Horny over and over again at 6 because he had the As Nasty As They Wanna Be tape. I didn't know what it meant, it was just catchy and he played it a lot. Yeah, most of the 90s I was heavy into the West Coast hip-hop sound and Alternative/Grunge music. I loved hip-hop but had a limited knowledge of it and didn't even know it. I knew of Jay-Z but not a lot. Like you said Biggie and Puff and Wu-Tang were the bulk of my East Coast knowledge. I knew Big Pun but had never heard of Big L. I knew nothing of Tribe or De La. I didn't even know of Gang Starr or Premier until after college (mid 2000s). I was in my own little bubble plus jumping back and forth listening to rock and unfortunately being really big into No Limit. I remember cleaning out my cd collection a few years ago and wondering what the hell was wrong with me. I bought almost anything released on No Limit. God, if I could only get that money back.

Turns out the Shirley Scott album has two breaks, one pretty ok one and one real nice one..

Nice one. Love the organ/drum break after the initial one.

I knew Bonita Applebum at least lol. I heard of Big L just before he died. Like maybe 3 months prior. They were pushing his cd hard on BET at the time. I was also into No Limit heavy. Especially Mystikal, Mia X and Silkk The Shocker. Though listening back I think Ghetto D, The Last Don and Ghetto Fabulous were the best albums to come from no limit. Oh and Unlady Like when it did eventually come out lol. After 2000 though I was done with No Limit. Actually after Ghetto Fabulous. Thats when I started getting into eastcoast hip hop.

Horray for salvation is horrible. I am shocked that nobody told Bill he couldn't sing. There are a few nice breaks on it though

That's why it's so funny. The singing is terrible but the breaks are worth picking it up. I like the title track though over Purple Haze.

Copped that salvation army joint for 25 cents at a street fair here in Jersey the next time I paid 50 cents at one of my favorite spots!!!... I know these records can get expensive but you just have to shop around like everything else..of course the net has changed the game completely but for the younger guys that werent exposed to "all of hip hop" im guessing thats not a bad thing.. anyways its always good to expand your horizons as you never know what your going to find...keep digging I Love this!!
