I see people are getting excited again about a new product and some questions come up, here are some details I've written down, which will hopefully give you a clearer picture of the product.

- Halion Sonic takes the "workstation" principle of Hypersonic and further develops and enhances it.
- It has ~1000 sound presets, 12 GB library.
- Includes complete Synth Engine (this means it's not 'just' a ROMpler it's a fully functional synthesizer as well.)
- Up to 20 velocity layers (great for playability).
- It is based on the same Halion technology that is being developed for Halion 4.

- Sound Library has been made by the sound designers of Yamaha who have also worked on the Motif sounds. (Against the false believe of many people, this plugin does NOT include the same sounds of the Motif, the sounds just have been created by the same sound design team who have worked on the Motif.)

- You can select patches through the Media Bay (inside the plugin) by simply choosing the characteristics you wish.

- You have 16 instruments slots, BUT for each instrument you can have 4 layers, AND you can set RANGES (on the keyboard) for EACH layer. That means per instrument slot you can layer up to 4 different patches and apply different ranges on the keyboard to each of them, they can be overlapping as well.

- You can have a simple and minimized "Play View" with the quick controls visible (can be manually assigned), this "Play View" function is good for performing.
- The articulation expressions are supported in Cubase with its own "VST Expression" feature (for classical instruments).
- It has 4 send/aux FX channels, with 4 inserts each, AND you can have 4 insert FX per LAYER (!) (not just instrument slots).
- There is no possibility to import your own sounds - that's for what Halion 4 is there.

It comes out 3rd Quarter of 2010.

Hope that helped.

Im looking forward to hearing and seeing more about it. I also wanna know if I can still use Hypersonic 2 alongside it if I upgrade.

Xpand 2 is made by the original hypersonic 2 developers its greate

nice, whats the price range for those 1000 sounds / synth functions? Arturia analog factory gets 3500 out the box for about 300 with a nice midi controller

^^ Analog Factory sounds good but it is a way different product, focusing mostly on vintage synth sounds and the cpu load is pretty big.

thanks!
