as far as cd players go, whos king? ive had a play with the technics sl dz 12 n i gotta say, it handles alrite but its mainly aesthetics, just shiny.also played with numark cdx1' nice but im not all that much of a freak for lps that im willing 2 splash out just for the feel of a record 2 scratch. im saving up so that nxt yr i can buy a cd player. im thinkin dns 3000 denon. i kno they got the rotating platter going on over the dns 1000 which doesnt rotate. whats that alpha trk featured by the 5000? iL hopefully have a spare 400pnds (my pound sign button doesnt work) nxt year to buy hopefully 1 cd tbl. n hopefuly save up over the nxt year 2 buy another. r there ne amazing cd players i should consider within the price range of the dns3000. also i aint overkeen on fx or mp3.

What tunes are you into? Any scratching at all?

There isn't really a king, much debated but never resolved, I suppose the top two are probably the Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK2 and the Denon DNS 5000 - as you mentioned. The Pioneer doesn't have a rotating platter but the digital scratch is much more realistic in most peoples opinion.

The alpha track is a feature which allows you to mix another track on the CD your playing. So essentially it has two outputs, you can put one to channel 1 the other to channel 2 (or whatever), and basically mix two tracks on one CD player. So its like having two CD players in one but you have to use the same CD.

No this is everything you should consider in that price range except maybe the new Vestax CDX 05 retailing at about £350, its apparently pretty good except the scratching effects and you can hook it upto the Tascam TTM1 - but this probably doesn't apply to you because im presuming you dont have turntables.

I had that problem when I installed windows XP, forgot to change the international settings to 'English (UK)' rather than 'English (US)'.

I've been thinking about splurging on just one CD deck to compliment my 12's, and that feature right there might just be the one that tips the scale in favor of Denon...

yeah i have a table, but its ooooold, ma bruv gave it 2me. kam 680, by my predictions, in the innevitability of tables being discontinued, i think this'L b the 1st in kam's production line. i kno that tascam scratch-a-delic thing is fun but i dont really think id have nuff spare change 2 purchase one.
im trying 2 do a lil scratching but i need more practice n i dont think id really notice all too much of a dif between dns 3k n 5k. i play mostly ninja tune stuff, hip hop, tryin 2 get some r&b (jus a lil) n then stuff like x-ecutioners n beat jnks. just that stuff. i thnk the way this is going, im being tilted more towards the dns 3

The Denon DN-S1000 does have function where you can mix in a differnet tune from the CD that is playing...it's just not called Alpha - they call it 'Next Track Reserve'

Perhaps Alpha does something different as well as next track reserve?

Dn-s5000 : Alpha-Track

You can play 2 tracks from the same CD at the same time on the same unit.

Like:

Track 5 playing on main
Track 17 playing on alpha

DJ Dude make a mix between the 2 tracks with his mixer, like he had 2 units.


Dn-s1000 : Next-Track Reserve

You CAN'T play 2 tracks from the same cd at the same time. You can only "prepair" your next track from the same unit.

Like:

Track 5 playing on main.
Track 17 kinda "pre-cued up" for a quick mix.

DJ Dude make a quick mix between the 2 tracks without the use of his mixer. The "Next-Track Reserve" function "Auto-Crossfade" between the current playing track and the "pre-cued Reserved" track.

I said "quick-mix" because I don't think you can change the pitch/tempo of the "Next Reserved Track", nor adjust the auto-crossfade time.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

You can adjust the crossfade time from 0 to 3 seconds. I believe you cannot adjust the pitch. Still a cool feature you can use in a pinch.

Wow I didn't know that the platter on the DN-S1000 didn't spin....That's kinda suspect....I have had a DN-S3000 for about a year now and have NO complaints....I use it as a "3rd" table of sorts with my 12's....Not quite yet ready to go FULLY digital lol

I'm a proud owner of 2x DNS3000 and the legendary X1500. And I gotta say, Denon really attacked the industry with shock and awe lol. Esecially the mixer, matrix inputs, built in efx, fully assignable channels... what can be btter????

The only thing that bugs me is the dns3000, the platter is so sensitive! but thats just a matter of getting used to... I keep getting heavy handed and when I pitch bend and completely lose it, but Denon was smart and put pitch bend buttons for ppl like me lol. Other than that I find that the smaller the platter, the more accurate you must learn to be.. and thats just a skill to earn, not a problem caused by the unit.

the DZ1200 are really nice, just don't use em, cos u'll instantly hate it... I mean the platter is nice, with a good amount of tension compared to the super sensitive denons... but other than that it's rubbish... to much to complain about em... e.g. big ass round thing right in da middle of the platter, LAG, built in efects that are next to almost useless when compared to denon... etc.

Real good looking units tho.. real good looking..... what a shame...

The CDX? great big thing, almost vinyl emulation, alright effects, HATE having to reach that far up just to press cue/play tho.... I dunno, you can't really get creative cos the aestehics kinda limits you, Unless you only scratch. for hardcore scratchers I do recomend the CDX, but if you want to get creative, get Denons. If you wanna look cool get the DZ1200's lol
