DAW/VST Midi Out into Akai MPC 1000

I've been trying to successfully route a VST MIDI into the MPC 1000. I have tried various possibilities from "Soft Thru", Track set to Midi: 1A, Turning DRUM track into Midi, Slaving the MPC/Master to MPC, Changing MIDI Port on DAW & MPC, Hard right & left for panning in track out method and nothing seems to get the MIDI into the MPC. Simply trying to play a VST instrument using MIDI keyboard into the DAW routed out the VST/DAW into MPC 1000 that is set to record.

So then I can have the recorded/MIDI data of the VST sound able to playback using the MPC.

Any help would be great! Has anyone accomplished this or know a proven method using MIDI?
