I’m running Cubase Essential 5.1.1 under Windows Vista Home Premium.

The attached screen shots show the device setups:

  1. Working: when I start Cubase, create a new Instrument track, choose a softsynth. All is fine.
  2. Not working: I complete a softsynth recording session, close Cubase, then later reopen it. I change nothing, but no sound can be heard, even though input & output meters show a signal, just as before. It’s the same with whatever ASIO I use, currently ASIO4ALL. MIDI tracks to my external hardware synths work consistently.
What am I doing wrong?
