Crossfader static

I am getting some major static when I scratch. I have a crappy mixer (Stanton SMX-201) and this may be the problem but I would like to think I can get away with it for a while longer before I can afford something better.

Is there a way to correct this? BTW I have been using tuner control spray from Radio Shack and I'm wondering if this actually caused the problem.

take a listen - this is AFTER doing full click&pop noise reduction in Audition... beforehand it was just nastily unbearable.

And if you want to comment on the scratching that's fine too, keep in mind i've only been doing it for 3 weeks hehe so I'm not very good.

How old is the mixer? It might need a replacement crossfader. Do you actually take the crossfader out to clean it? or do you just spray inside the mixer? It might need a fader lubricant.

It's about 3 weeks old, and I just spray inside like on Qbert's vid. I can take the crossfader out if I want, I just haven't tried.

I used to have an old Numark Mixer and the crossfader was bleh! I went out on me after a couple week of me experimenting with scratching. Try taking the CF out, clean it thouroughly, and reapply some fader lubricant on the rails. I'd save up for a new mixer rather than suggesting to buy any replacement upgraded crossfader.

3 weeks old? Take it back to wherever you purchased it.

I did. I bought a Rane TTM-56 on ebay for $450. It has really, really improved my abilities.

That Stuff from radio shack will kill ANY fader DO NOT i repeat DO NOT use it on your mixer

buy caig lube they make one just for crossfaders and another one for channel faders they also make a lubricating oil just for crossfaders

u said u have a rane mixer this is a quote from their web sight

"The only product authorized by Rane for use in our potentiometers is CAIG Laboratories DeoxIT Faderlube" This is CAIG part number F5S-H6

any thing else will violate your warranty

ah, damn that Qbert and his lies!!!
I am tossing that sh*t out ASAP. I don't really plan on needing to lubricate the magnetic fader on the Rane because it's supposedly self-lubricating, but in the event that it starts losing that awesome Rane touch I will definitely get the CAIG stuff.

Thanks for the helpful info!

Just realised the audio was just cutting in and out HIDEOUSLY, mostly becaues of the anti pop u did in audition, the threshold was obviously set really low so it was getting the "good" audio as well as the pops and clicks. if i was you, i would get the cheapest mixer that the Eclectic Breaks Pro X Fade is compatible with....its seriously my favorite fader i have ever touched, full customizable as well

Also regular cleaning of the contact head on the fader will improve life dramatically

hope this helps

nice instrumental. and that was a good buy on the rane. how old was it?

It's 1 year old and it's autographed by DJ Craze.
ebay kicks ass.
