hey guys im new to the beat making game as well as this website...i've been listening to harry fraud beats for over some time and i notice he has a down south kind of style when it comes to snare rolls and the way he programs his hi hats...i was wondering if any one know's and would be willing to explain to me how i can program my hi hats and snare rolls in a similar fashion....im currently using Fl studio as well as Reason's so if any one could explain how i can get my nare rolls and hi hats to sound a little similar using those programs i would gladly appreciate it.

wish i could give you a link to what im talking about but sadly i cannot...but if you listen to a harry fraud beat or two you'll understand what i mean.

You have to highlight one beat and go to tools and select chop. Go to youtube and do a search for snare rolls in FL, there are bunch of clips. You should be able to figure it out.

yea i kinda got the hang of it now after watching a few vidz...thanx for the advice dude

he just draws all of that in, he does not have a midi controller or a drum machine... at least none that I can see in any of his videos. Just use 16th and 32nd notes and vary the spacing in between. Its pretty easy to make hi-hats sound like that.... whats hard is making them sound like you have a real drummer behind a kit.

With FL, you don't have to go the midi route. I made more than a couple respectable beats when I began that were all "click based." In terms of the sound, its the sample you use. But honestly none of the the "snare rolls" these guys create sound like a real drummer on the snare to me. It's become a sound unique to rap/RnB, but I don't confuse it with real kit sounds.
