Im very confused about djing. I dont get what dj controllers are and do, their fucntion. Im also confuse that theres like 3 types of different djing; vinyl, electronic, or something like that. Im also confuse about what equipment you need to be able to djing since i think theres a lot.But i wish to dj like as a hobby, entertainment, parties, house parties, then go for clubs.( I thought u only need dj controller, speakers, laptop and the software).
Im very interested to start djing but wish to be inform first.

Thats essentially all you need to DJ. The controlers basically control your place in a song. When you stop the control vinyl the song stops and you could spin the song back or scratch or somthing. They are timestamped so they tell the software what to do. Usually software will have a visual representation of the waveform of a song which moves in time with the record.

They all do pretty much the same thing. Unless you have an APC40 or something like that, you pretty much control 1 to 4 tracks and have an eq on each track with a cross fader. Most controllers have two decks that are mirrored just like a cd setup or vinyl setup.

1st step would probably be to grab a copy of virtualdj home edition and have a bit of a play around with just your laptop. its free after all

The songs a DJ will play will be on vinyl, on CD, or in electronic form (MP3 or wav).

A DJ controller is a piece of hardware that allows a DJ to control computer based DJ software (like Traktor or Serrato) without using a mouse and keyboard, it's that simple and allows you to spend time DJing and not operating your computer.

Minimum DJ requirements:

Music (in either vinyl, CD, or electronic form)
Something to play the music on (turntable, CD player, computer with software & soundcard)
DJ mixer (2ch minimum)
Headphones to cue up and/or monitors
Speakers (either powered or unpowered using external power amps)

All of this, but don't forget if you're using software like VDJ or Traktor you can use the mixer built into it so as long as you have a soundcard, a laptop, and software, you don't need the mixer.

Uhm, turntables play with vinyl, cdj's with cd's., and even USB for the newer players.

controllers are great for mobile DJing. Most clubs will have their own equipment. Which will consist mostly of CDJs. Some still have turntables. Learn all of them.

Yeah..most clubs have a lap top plugged in to either CDJ's or controllers.

What about skill and musical ability? Thankfully even the greatest technology is no replacement for this... Yet!
