I am trying to chop a sample on my MPC 1000, but I am having a difficult time. I have watched a few videos on how to do it, and everyone is:

Pressing Mode, then Pad 6(Trim)

Once they get to this screen, they are selecting an option called Slice

I don't have that option. Can anyone tell me why I don't have this option and if there is a way to get it, so I can seperate my sample into regions?

Also I tried to download an upgrade from Akai's website but I am having trouble loading it.
Thank you for any information.

The slice option is probably in the update, or they had the JJ OS. I dont know if you read this on the akai site but it tells you how to update the OS.
How to copy OS bin file to CF with MPC1000 and Computer
Required Equipment: Compact Flash (CF), USB mass storage class supported computer (Windows XP/ME/2000 or Mac OSX, OS9.x)
1. Download the MPC1000 OS from our website to your computer
2. Your browser should automatically unzip the file and you should have a folder called "MPC1000_OS_v211" on your computer
3. Insert Compact Flash into MPC1000
4. Switch the MPC1000 on
5. Go Load mode, then press USB (F4)
6. Connect a USB cable between PC to MPC1000 (display will change from "Status=Not Connected" to "Status=Connected")
7. PC will mount the CF card of the MPC1000 as a drive on your computer
8. Open the "MPC1000_OS_v211" folder on your computer and copy (drag) the OS ("mpc1kv211.bin") file on to the CF card
9. Once the file has been copied, disconnect the USB cable

How to update MPC1000
1. Insert CF with OS data into MPC1000
2. Turn the power on while pressing down the WINDOW button
3. Press the REC button - the MPC1000 will start processing the update and will then re-boot automatically with the new OS

***** IMPORTANT NOTE *****
DO NOT SWITCH OFF THE MPC1000 WHILE IT IS UPDATING THE OS!

Thanks for the info. I followed the directions that you posted and it didn't seem to work. Do know much about the JJ OS and if there is a way to tell what I have. I purchased my MPC 1000 about a year ago brand new from guitar center. I don't know how often they are updated from the factory.

i dont have a 1000 but when you turn on the mp the OS version should be displayed on the screen while it starts up, if not hit mode and pad 10(other) and it should show the OS version there. akai os
Version
2.11 was released 5/1/07. Make sure the file you downloaded isnt in any folder on the cf card. i use the jj os on my 2500. i think its way better than the akai os. theres sum good info on the jj os here mpc-forums.com/viewforum.php?f=25

Cool. I appreciate the help. Jeeze, I have version 1.07 updated January 27, 2005. I am going to try a couple more time to download version 2.11, but if it doesn't work, where can I get the JJ OS and do you feel that its safe to use? Thanks again for your help.

get the jj os at www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/ its just as safe to use as the akai os, the website looks suspect but it is offical. there is a free version but you cant save on it. its $30 for the full version and there are updates often
