Chief Keef’s Interscope Records: The Real Gangsters of Gangsta Rap

What's the point of this article? Is it that Interscope should be signing artists who rap about helping their mom make stove top stuffing, and helping grandma with the groceries? That sh*t doesn't sell. So would you rather them sign no one, and take away any opportunity from these artists making a living?

The most important part of the article:

But don’t expect urban youth’s most influential; Kanye, Diddy, Wayne, Baby or Jay-Z to rally or speak up against the culture killers like this because they are all too ready to collect big dirty corporate checks. Don’t expect sites like Russell Simmon’s Global Grind, or so called music journalists (radio, print or television) to point fingers at this mess because they too have exchanged freedom of speech for pay checks and perks.

This has to do with money; not race. Anyone will get exploited in the entertainment industry.

I didn't miss the point at all. That's how the business model of the industry is. That's how ANY business is. The record company puts up an initial investment in recording, marketing, promoting an artist and recoups the investment through sales of the music/merchandise/etc of the artist. What's the difference between this and Def Jam promoting Slayer back in the day, when the music was thought to be satanic and influencing kids to kill themselves? What's the difference between this, and CBS promoting Charlie Sheen's crazy lifestyle for 2 1/2men, but not really caring about how ****ed up he was? The entertainment industry has been using actors/artists/musicians since the inception of the industry

What is the point of explaining that Interscope and Iovine are taking Keef's publishing royalties? So how exactly should the record company recoup their investment? Should they just give Keef millions to record, allow him to record whatever the hell he wants, release the album, and let Keef keep all the money?

Is your argument about ethics or the business model?

This post is pointless. People have no business sense of the music industry. Most do not even know what publishing is.

Fortunately, most of you guys will never have the chance to get signed. You have nothing to worry about.
