Hiya guys.

Gonna bite the bullet and get the last (yeah right) mixer i will need for a long time. Finally came down to the Rane Rane Rane. Only thing is i can't decide between the 2, the MP44 or the MP/XP 2016.

Love the style of the 2016s and the knobs, and since i spin house they are perfect. However, i do like the MP44 cue/pan feature for headphones as well as the flexfx features which allow you to select which channels your effects go to instead of having it apply to the master out only. GAH going crazy trying to decide.

Ideally would have liked the new features of the MP44 in the 2016 package (are you listening rane?), but i just can't get over the knobs!!!! Or just have the MP44 with knobs.

Gonna take a poll heheh...so go ahead and vote, rant, recommend whatever...Thanks a bunch.

i like the 44 for the new features like the being able to assign effects to whichever channel you want. The crossfader curve is great for scratching if you're into that. It's just a bad a** mixer with a compact size. Don't get me wrong the 2016 is no slack those knobs are cool as hell and your given mad inputs to play with. It's a tough one but the 44 does it for me.

IMO it's a matter of size and practicity too. If u plan to have ur new Rane in a case and to gigs and all, go for the 44 as the 2016 (both MP+XP units, otherwise forget it) is huge and heavy (yet it still fits a 19" case), it's more of an installation mixer. It's tough, though, but so is the 44. In either case, excelent sound ann built.

I am very impartial to the 2016, so I will have to whole-heartedly recommend it to you...but, I will admit that it would be nice to have individual channel effects controls and more comprehensive headphone/cueing controls...however, all it takes is one time playing on it to realize that it is so much more fun to mix on than any other mixer...IMHO of course! Either way, I doubt you will be disappointed...good luck!

P.S. Oh, Alex TC has a good point, the 2016 is huge, and doesn't fit very well in many of the pre-made cases. But if you search around enough, there are some options such as several of Odyssey's cases. Also, going custom is a good option as well.

I'm right now facing a similar dilemma...I e-mailed Rane awhile back asking if they had any plans to make a rotary-fader version of the MP-44 but apparently the answer is no for now (and it would apparently be hard to "hack" rotaries into an MP-44 due to the internal construction).

So I'll most likely just get the MP-2016, and use Electrix "EQ/Killers" on the input channels (much more flexible EQ than is provided on the Rane accessory unit).

After working on Urei's for so long, I just can't give up those rotaries...that for me outweighs the "flex-FX" feature.

Yeah, for the Urei lovers, what about those Bozak mixers? Huh? :D Wondertoys!!!

I've actually never been a big fan of the Bozak mixers...neither the sound quality or the controls are as good as a Urei or Rane. I think Bozak used a much cheaper grade of rotary potentiometer...at least, they don't "feel" as nice.

I ended up buying the Rane MP-2016 yesterday...it's certainly miles ahead of the Vestax PMC-25 I was using before. Only thing I don't like on the MP-2016 is the sharp edges on the knobs...I'll probably bevel them off.

How much is the MP44? I haven't been able to find a price for it.

The Bozak was even more popular than the Urei, I never said it was better 'cos I agree 100%, the Urei knobs and overall quality is (was) way better - and the potentiometers u mentioned where fabricated in a small plant here in Brazil (just found it the other day, a fellow dj told me :) ) Nonetheless, I still think the Bozak was a "soulful" mixer designed and built in an era when things where not meant to last a couple of yrs, it's in another league IMO.
