Triton, Motif, Fantom, Fusion, take your pick. I'd personally go with Motif, but that opinion's based on the fact I already have a triton rack, and for my preference of production the motif would serve me better. Plus the motif's sequencer is the best I've seen on a workstation keyboard in my opinion.

I know you asked about keyboards, but if I had $1500 to spend and already had an up to date computer(2ghz/512mb or better), I'd buy a $1,000 keyboard and Reason, Cubase, Sonar or FL Studio to accompany it. You'd get way more sounds with software alongside it.

If you plan to also venture into recording vocals, go with sonar or Cubase. If you want a ton of instruments at your disposal go with reason. If you want a nice program for drum sequencing and sampling(alot like an MPC), go with FL.

Go to your local music store and sit down for about an hr and try them out.

Our opinions are just what they are. Opinions.

But YOU have to feel inspired or a certain incline towards a favorite set of keys.

hmmm... That's a tough decision. You would have to base it off of personal preferences. If i was in your position, i would buy a nice midi keyboard, a good sequencer like cubase and the rack version of the triton, motif, or fantom.

OK.... Here's the Rundown.....

Triton Extreme - Good Virtual Synth based Workstation... I would snatch it up if you are totally into synth sounds.... I would say good for a West Coast style or Southern producers.....

Motif Series - Good workstation that is based around your major instrument sounds:Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, Guitars, Acoustic & Electric Pianos, ect... Any style can be produced with this board... This board is a R&B musician's dream...

Fantom Series - Is a healthy mix of the 2 boards mentioned above with a few more exotic sounds....

This isn't set in stone... You can make any style with any board.....

$1500?

used workstation (karma/motif/triton 61 keys): $600
used compact VA (micron/microkorg): $250
used MPC1000: $550
cables and cheap submixer (or double stand): $100

Total: $1500

It all depends on what you are doing?
Do you like having alot of different sounds(i.e. piano, brass, strings, etc.) or are you looking for a straight synth?
For A workstation I love my fantom, you can get a XA for around a grand
For a synth I would go with a Nord Lead 2x if you dont have any other synths, a little phatty if you have a polyphonic synth
Alot of people use the Emu ASR-10 which you can sample things onto different keys and play them
or you can get any MPC/midi controller and do the same thing
I would go to guitar center and play a bunch of different keyboards and when you find the one you like order it from sweetwater or ebay or something (I personally hate Guitar Center)
www.analoguehaven.com usually has good used synths!

I think you would need one of these to accurately rendering what Tessy's speach would sound like:
