I know there's alot of rap producers on this site so i thought i'd like to get an idea if any of you know what the best are using, so if you can just drop a little knowledge on this subject kind of like this, my favorite rap album ever was "the infamous: Mobb Deep" And i know from an article that i read in the source that Havoc said he purchased an ensoniq EPS 16+ to craft his sh!t, well anyways, let me know what you cats' think is the greatest rap album ever was and the arsenal the producers used....................KO

36 chambers, and I believe RZA used the asr-10 for this, I still think the asr-10 is the best sampler ever

i don't think i could ever have a fav. rap album.... i could hardly have a fav. album. Wu tang is tight. On TV once, i think it was RZA talking about this analog processor they used to make the drums nice and gritty, giving it that rough hardcore east side newyork-at-night sound that makes white boys in Omaha wanna go out and buy guns. But my style is just about anyitng Neptunes do. they put me back to a time in which i'm heavily interested in main stream rap... I know the use the Korg triton a lot, but this is no suprise this biatch samples sequences and has cool features like a touch-screen and the samples it already has are baaaaaaaad azz. You can clearly hear that "grindin" and "clap that boy" were made with primarily the Korg triton. I suggest you go to the nearest guitar center and F*** around with this badboy. If you go to the drum kit called "perc fest" you will find samples used in both songs mentioned. Off the top of my head i can also think of the hi hat used in ludacris "throw them bows" is on that drum kit..haha. here's the url for the keyboard i'm tlaking about. It's a big industry standard ithink.

http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=TRITONPRO

anyway have fun with that if you will

.....most of their drums are done live, and guitar/ bass is done live....so they dont really just use the triton.....

Built for Cuban Linx-I believed RZA used the ASR-10.
The Chronic-Dre used various keyboards, mini moog piano etc...

I think the triton is over rated...those sounds that you highlighted from the triton the "grindin" and hi hats can easily come out of several other sound modules in the market. When started making beats 2 years ago i must admitt read ing post just like these got me easily fooled into thinking that i needed a triton to make hip-hop beatz. I personally say screw the triton i collect samples and i am up 40gig..btw that software syths ezs24,evp88 and my midi conthroller . i can put out a triton like a candle.

holla back:cheers:

people think if they buy a triton there gunna make a hit song. . .

i just bought a triton over an asr-10 because being that my samples i used were on the dirty side , i could use alittle clean instruments in my set up . . and yes going through the prgrams . you do hear a ton! of hit songs patchs in there. the neptune jingle guitar isnt live it the funk guitar setting. . sorry . and and rodhes patch is good as well as a moog. . . gear is gear. . they get the best piece and rock it no matter what . .. its all a matter of what can you use the fastest and is the most dope and diverse in sound. . . peace

learning that the exact same sounds that hit producer so and so uses comes from a triton makes me want to stay away from it even more.

So this post turns into YET ANOTHER CRUSADE AGAINST THE MIGHTY TRITON.....

If there were more people on this forum with REAL JOBS....no one would talk sh!t about the Triton because they'd be able to afford one. Once again, learn how to edit a ****in' preset, and MAGICALLY watch your TRITON IDEALS VANISH FROM EXISTENCE!!!!

Getting back to the INTENDED TOPIC.....

I'd have to say that it's waaaay too impossible to choose a favorite hip hop album..for me it is anyway...

But Jay Z' s Hard Knock Life Volume 2 would be a very good contender for that spot....

Since swizz and tim were on it, I'd suspect that Swizz used the Triton as well as Tim...and Tim uses the ASR-X.

i am not on a crusade against the triton.
it seems more apparent that the producers being named in this thread need to learn how to edit a preset since their equipment is being identified so easily.
it all comes down to personal preference though.
i personally choose to go with whatever works to give me unique sounds whether its chopped and layered sampled breaks/sounds for percussion, virtual analog synthesis, or samples.

as for my fave albums, some would be...
zion i - deepwaterslang2.0
nwa - efil4zaggin
dead prez - lets get free
snoop - doggystyle
bdp - criminal minded
brotha lynch hung - lynch by inch
redman - whut? the album
public enemy - fear of a black planet
etc....
way too many albums for me to have 1 favorite

I'm not gonna make excuses for these producers because I do find The Neptunes to be somewhat lazy with their ****...then again I can't really call them lazy. i just thin they were smart enough to gobble up the triton's guitar presets before the rest of the world did. AND THE TRITON's SOUNDS ARE NOT USED UP BY THE WAY....plase tell me at least 5 hip hop tracks that uses pads from the Triton and I'll shut up...for now...

..Oh and please name the pads. Thanks!:hello:

What I will say is that if you're in high demand for production not too many of these cats are really gonna have time to edit every preset they get their hands on. Man if the half of you knew the origins of most of Tim's ish...many of you might even place him amongst the reigns of Premiere and Jay Dee. He's a sample freak man...believe that.

timbaland samples from dnb among other places...

in this interview , dnb producer Teebee explains how he gets to remix tracks from Tim's label

"TeeBee: Well, Timbaland steals my snares...
The snare off Aaliyah's "Try Again" is from my album and I just love R&B basically..."

i can't be mad at him for that cause a lot of the stuff he puts out is dope.

As for the neptunes, i just read an article posted around here on their production techniques. chad definitely knows some engineering tricks.

lets see anolog vs. digital...

lets not start that...

we all know who sounds supreme

I feel everything you're saying entitee. I stand by creativity and uniqueness in music just as much as if not more than the next person. I'm just enamored by anything the neptunes touch. Pharrel IS a sample. That sh!t's tight. Chad's guitars are awesome, even the simple riff if Jay z' "nigga please" is phat. I'm not saying for ppl to get a triton b/c neptunes use it bla bla bla. But i do like them... ii like the touch screens, i like the conveniance, i like the samples, but when i get one i intend on importing rare samples from my vinyl collection and playing a lot of stuff live.

One thing i realized about the triton is sometimes it does sound a little too clean. There's no funk-in way you could make a good rock song on it.... unless you intend on playing it for elavators. And as a bass player i realize how hard it is to get a real life-like bass tone on a triton. Anyway... i should probably go shower... i stink

has this thread really gone two pages without someone mentioning the MPC? LOL

My all time favorite album from front to back is Moment of Truth by gangstarr

premo used the MPC-60 and two turntables right?

if someone wants to be my personal hero they can send me the 4 moment of truth LPs....they are hard too find, snatch them right up if you see them

MPC60, tables & the s950. whew....dopenezz.

most of my fav albums were prolly done with MPC60/SP1200/TR808....im true school. old tribe, gang starr, nwa, pete rock, main source, bdp, brand nubian, eric b & rakim, etc....

but im definitely feeling the sound of the eps/asr.

&

more recent bay area stuff im feelin is usually done with an mpc/sp and a triton. i know this as a fact.

i was just about to bring up the mpc in relation to the triton.
i don't use an mpc and i have no desire to use it for production but i do understand what a big role it plays in hip-hop.

one way i would use it is in live situations. I just saw the dopest show with Zion I. Amp Live played 80% of the beats on the mpc and the set flowed together flawlessly. i always told myself that if i do live shows i have to actually put on a show and not just do the emcees yelling over dats thing. one idea was to get stuff put on vinyl and mix/blend each track together. now after that zion i show i'm down to bang out at least the drum tracks of each song live and guide the tempo and flow like that
