hello people,
i am trying to automate the effects on my master out on cubase, i want to automate the autogate on the master fx dynamics window so the bass drops out and back in again, ( i'm trying to make a drum and bass tune).
Does anyone know how u automate master effects?
i've looked on the controller editor and all i can see is a master volume controller and nothing else for master fxs.
Is it possible to automate master fx?
I'd appreciate any help as automating each individual channel is very time-consuming and boring.
cheers.

I just tried it and it worked fine. Open the mixer, and select the 'show master' option. On the master channel select the VST dynamics effect, and then press the litte e so that the effects own window opens. Now press the W button 'write' , press play and move the knobs etc. that you want. Once you're done, stop, turn write off and read (R) on, and press play. This should work.

You're talking about the controller editor so I assume you're using Cubase VST 5, not SX.

I got it to work, but it's a bit like a hidden feature, I couldn't find a Read/Write knob as with channel effects.

If you automate a channel effect with Read/Write, an Audio Mix track is created with the automation data on it. Now if you load a master effect, the same audio mix track will contain a folder called 'Master FX' (at the bottom of the window), when you unfold it you'll see controllers called MasterFx1Param1,2,3 etc.; they refer to the different parameters of of the loaded effect, but you'll have to try them out one by one, because they're not named after the parameters of the effect.

A workaround (to avoid having to do it on individual channels) would be to do the automation on a group track where you group all individual tracks concerned.

Hum.. I just noticed Carnage's reply; I think he's referring to SX (?)
