Auralex behind speakers, bad advice on box?

In the auralex studio kit, they say you can put the diffusors behind the speakers if they are close to the wall. Isn't the problem with speakers close to the wall bass? Wouldn't this just mess up imaging?

Also, my speakers are suspended from chains in my room, almost right against the wall. Is it OK to put these diffusors against there if the speakers press against

when you place a speaker into a corner you increase the bass response by 6db, against a wall that is more like 3db

the room you have to work in is going to require all sorts of compromises as it is (we've been back and forth on this for months now)

what you have indicated is yet another compromise

behind the speakers in this case will be the earliest points of first reflection, so yes you want to treat those positions
