are Hip Hop fans the most fickle fanbase??

Hip hop fans are hardly fans at times. They download your music illegally, give it to their friends, don't buy merch or go to shows to help support the cause much at all. And then say oh I am the biggest insert artist here fan. When I talk to people who are fans of say pop music they have no problem with spending $1 on a itunes download for a song they like. They have been known to buy all sorts of merch. I am a fan of the Mass Effect video game series. Love the games and I support the game buy buying DLC, I bought the ME3 collectors edition and I preordered it ect. I take part in their challenges they have in the game every other weekend ect. I am a fan. What I did was not much but I bet most hip hop fans would not do the same for their favorite artists. People say they are fans of something because its cool but are not willing to put up when it counts. It probably comes from the entitlement issues of this generation but if I could sing better I would so just do the singer/songwriter soul thing.

You have to separate those that are actual fans of hip hop MUSIC and those that are fans of what Hip Hop culturally represents on a mainstream level which is usually some exaggerated stereotype (money money money, killa killa killa, hoez hoez hoez, etc...) The ones that fall in the first category are the ones that will be loyal and hold you down for the long run as long as you keep feeding them what they want at a consistent high level. The ones that fall into the second category (much bigger total) will follow you on Twitter, keep up with any gossip/rumors/etc concerning you on Mediatakeout and stream your latest release on their favorite music blog and never go any further than perhaps a iTune download if you have a smash hit

When you have true music fans you can have a platinum-plated career spanning 4 decades like Sade without never ever being in the spotlight.

Die Hard hip hop fans hold their artists to a different standard. Hip hop was built on being REAL. You talk it how you live it. However that was.

So if your musical image is built on one thing, hip hop fans will hold you to that to the very end. If you're a backpacker, you're supposed to be anti-establishment, anti-commercialism. So your fans expect you NOT to like things and artists associated with that.

It's just like these women and these soap opera characters. They never let them out of character. Even if they see one on the street in real life, they'll run up on em and start screaming about who they cheated on on the show, like that shit actually happened!

There's much more of a connection to hip hop. People actually want to LIVE it. It's not just entertainment for alot of people.

This is so true. I totally understand what you mean. I have a friend that used to be a die hard Wiz Khalifa fan. Once Wiz Khalifa started to go mainstream they didn't like him anymore. I can kind o see why. His music sort of lacks the quality he once had before he became a household name in the hip hop community.

But yeah, once you're portrayed as one thing it's hard for people to see you differently.

As for the people that were mad at SchoolBoyQ and Kendrick Lamar.... I dont understand it. So what's wrong with showing what you worked hard for? These artists have probley had times where they spent the night in the studio 2 or three days in a row. That's hard work. People act like they just sing a song in one take throw it to the radio and boom they get rich... No. They do work pretty hard for what they get. I don't care its Waka Flocka or Eminem.

It doesnt matter what they rap about. They have different audiences that they work hard for and cater too. Look at Tech9... he's mostly underground but he still shoutsout young money and stuff on Twitter and stuff. Then his fans get all upset like he selling out.. Who cares?

People in the hip hop community tend to be to serious over petty stuff. Who cares if they had backpacks made of elephant ass... its their lives, they worked hard for it. End of story.

Nice post though!

than stop rapping about it simple

why? I mean it's not their fault that fans have a reality problem where they can't separate real from story. Saying to stop rapping about it and getting mad at the artist is like getting mad at Tom Clancy because he isn't doing the things his characters do in his books.

if you think this is bad drew wait until his song with lady gaga drops lmao
i hate how hip hop artists are always boxed off by fans and left for dead if they try to escape

me personally i dont give a shit what anyone does as long as the music is good

its so stupid to me

Just narrow minded it's sad at times lol. I was reading comments on A$AP Rocky Wassup video people where saying he in the Illuminati and shit when clear as day they told you in the video it's a "dream".

Maaaaayne Drew, you must've been channelin me from somewhere lol. I've had to renounce being Mr. Hip-Hop recently, now Im jus an artist that does Hip-Hop lol. Naw but on a serious note its ugly out here, old heads and the supposed 'die hard fans' hate on everything that doesn't sound like Dilla or 9th had a hand in it and mainstream heads let cats get away with lines like 'She got a big booty so I call her big booty'.... Both dynamics are good in doses but the one thing that the game lost since it started is balance! Hip-Hop cats have got mad ignorant, it's like if their favorite rapper/artist shows signs of growing and progressin', they cut'em off like an overly infected limb, the madness gotta end! -But will it......

People always say that when an indie artist gets some mainstream success. People just don't wanna seem to believe that a lot of people can like their favorite artist lol. "If I like it it's original and good music. If others start to like it, it must be the Iluminati."-mindset of a lot of indie hip hop fans

Run DMC & Aerosmith ("Walk This Way") kinda opened up that box.
Before that, it was unheard of to mix two "originals" coming from different genres and cultures (hip hop vs. rock).

Later the hipster-ing began, so you could be a West Coast fan, but you couldn't be an East Coast fan.

I think Limp Bizkit were the only "cross-over" band that was loved (and hated) for mixing different styles and trying to get different audiences to like their shit.

The different genres had way more exclusive cultures behind them, so you wouldn't hear a singer on a hip hop record either.........this concept was luckily killed by The Fugees (and of course The Roots & Erykah Badu "You got me"), but in the end led to that whole "RnbHipPop" mess we were in just some years ago and watering it all down.

So it's always a two-sided coin. On one side, you want to expand the fanbase, on the other you want to stay "real"/"original".

I don't care. LOL But a lot of people still do to this day.
I bet some "real heads" still hate Nas for using "For Elise" on "I know I can". LOL

lol, I been wondering the same thing

for example, I seen a lupe fiasco interview and you guys know the type of music lupe makes right? so anyway he said he likes to splurge on Ferrari's and he likes to go to fashion shows etc.

and people in the youtube comments were saying stuff like this

"oh lupe you sellout" "you illuminati puppet" "fake ass nigga" "I dont rock with lupe anymore" etc.

lol, It was hilarious

Lol it's crazy how people act like working hard being successful and reaping the benefits of your hardwork is a sin... 9/10 most of those people that say all of that junk in comments and stuff will never see 5 or 6 figures in their bank accounts a day in their lives...

I bet if they had the same amount of money as Lupe they would be doing the same thing also. Tell me who wants to live in the dirty projects and hood and ride around in raggedy ass cars all their lives? I know I dont. Just because you from the hood don't mean you gotta stay there. Why can't people move up and better their standards of living? Why is that such a problem for some people?

I bet because, they know they'll probably never amount to anything in their entire lives. It's sad how much hate successful people get. They either have to be associated with the Illuminati or some secret society of some sort. Why can't it just be that they worked hard and it's paying off? Some people are so childish and ignorant and most likely will never GET IT. Lol

Repent your ignorant ways demon!!! It can only be the Illuminati!!! Success is impossible with out them!!!!lol

Hip hop fans are the worst. The most bi-polar of all genres. They make money and they spend it, whats there to get mad about. These fans care too much about the personal life and not just listen to the music. I'm gonna stop being a fan of someone becaus they became successful and rich from their work? ****outtahere.

Thats what Im saying. But I bet half the people like that would be kissin ass if Lupe or some other rapper was shellin out the money to them. Some people cant stand to see others doing better than them.
