Well I know I did mention this in several other threads, but finally I have to decide not later than this weekend for the GS-3000.

1° Should I buy the Allen & Heath GS-3000 ? Or should I patiently wait for a 2nd hand Soundcraft Ghost ?

2° I think the price is very reasonable for that quality - $3,200 (2nd hand)

3° I can buy it from a guy in the neighbourhood, he's even willing to give me guarantee, and he's selling 'cause he bought an Amek - so I suppose he's bona fide

Any opinions ?

How long are you willing to wait? If one does come up at a price you can afford, sending something like that across country/world isnt the sort of thing I'd like to be thinking about ;)

Allen & Heath.

Great EQ, same ALPS faders as the Soundcraft, better build quality.

It's kinda weird, not having the "fader swap" that other boards do, but the Group/Direct option is pretty cool, if eccentric. You'll learn a lot of unique production style by owning this board.

I say do it.

I would say wait if you are really willing to wait.

Although I am happy with my console, I needed to get one pretty quick and so I went for the 02r.

Better to wait than be with something that you will not be happy with. If you like Allen and Heath consoles (And they do look nice although I have not tried them) then go for it. That's the only way to truly find out.

Damn even more doubting know (my head is bursting...) - still a few questions about the A&H GS-3000:

1° is $3,200 a reasonable price (32ch GS-3000 incl. meter bridge) ?

2° if the GS-3000 doesn't suit me at all - is there any chance I can sell it easily on Ebay for ± the same price ?

3° is there an Allen & Heath repair center in Belgium or Holland - for the case that I have problems later ? (I didn't find anything about it but perhaps somebody knows that)

Thanks a lot for the input.

I just went to the Allen and Heath site and reasd a little about the mixer.

This is strange and I am not sure if I am reading it right. It states:

Q: Where are the Group outputs on the GS3000, and how do I use them to record to (say) an 8-track recorder?
A: On the GS3000 there are no 'dedicated' group output connectors, but group outputs are available from the direct outputs of a channel by pressing the GRP/DIRECT button. On each input channel you can choose whether each channel puts out its own direct signal, or alternatively a Group output signal depending on its position in a block of 8 channels. Pressing the GRP/DIRECT buttons on all of channels 1 through to 8 will give you Group output 1 on channel 1 direct output, group output 2 on channel 2 direct output, group output 3 on channel 3 direct output etc. In the same way, pressing the GRP/DIRECT buttons on all of channels 17 through to 24 will give you Group output 1 on channel 17 direct output, group output 2 on channel 18 direct output, group output 3 on channel 19 direct output etc. In this way you can record your group outputs to 8 track.

I think this would be a weird way to have to use subgroups compared to the Ghost or Mackie.

Just a thought.
