do you guys think this would be a good buy for someone gettin there hands on hardware for the first time? it says it works with reason and wat not but i should for FL to right?

if anyone has it or knows anythnig about it, it would help alote, thanks.

I looked into getting one of these before I got my X-Station 25. It looks nice. It'll work with Fruity for sure. It's a MID controller, so it works with anything that uses MIDI.

I've never used one before, just read up on it. But it sure looks nice for $200.
 
this controller is a monster, I too have the X Station 49, its cool, but I'm going to wait for the Photon X 49 to come out, ish looks hot!!!
 
ya i might get it now. altho i want something that i can play without a computer but just to pratice, idk wat to do lol.
 
The Novation X-Station has a built in synth, so you can play it without a computer. It's the best portable MIDI controller on the market, in my opinion. Kind of pricey at $500 though.
 
true enough, but for the value, the photon 49 can easily compete with the x-station, it's one of those Akai MPD, M-Audio Trigger Finger things, ones less, but can compete very well.. simply put, i'm trading in my x-station 49 for it ( when Musician's Friend gets the thing)!!
 
No, it's not like that at all. The Trigger Finger is CLEARLY better than the MPD. It has more memory banks (templates), more MIDI controls (knobs and sliders), and many people say the pads feel better too. The Trigger Finger just happens to be cheaper.

The Photon and X-Station are the oposite. The X-Station has way more MIDI controls (knobs and sliders), has the touchpad, has the built in synth, and has the semi weighted keys too. I don't think there is a single area that the Photon has an advantage over the X-Station. But the X-Station costs over twice as much.

If you trade your X-Station for a Photon, you're going the wrong way, lol. What features on the Photon are you looking for that the X-Station doesn't have? There's many reasons why the X-Station costs over twice as much as the Photon...

the photon doesnt have the touchpad persay, but the photon has the effects knob, just as good as the touch pad,.Just for me, I'd rather have the photon, in my view, they are damnnear the same, yes the xstation has many i/o, but only 2 can be used at a time, so clearly i want something where i dont even need i/o if i cant have ALL of them at one time. and the synth doesnt appeal to me, i just need a midi controller that i like. some of the xstation templates dont work well in reason 3.0, but that might be a reason 3.0 problem. i mean, i dont know, its whatever, i'll try it out and see and if it suckssss, then i'll be back to probably the Remote49. Salty, you showed the pic of the photon x25, have you seen the x49? it has faders and some other things, but as you did say, it doesnt have as many as the x station, but im going to try both of them out.
 
Yeah, I showed the X-Station 25 and the Photon X25. Lets look at both in 49 key versions:

I couldn't find images that were the same size. But when you click the image, it gives you a larger image. When looking at the larger images, the X-Station clearly looks better. It has everything the Photon has, plus a lot more. You said you wanted a MIDI controller, well look at how may controls the X-Station has compared to the Photon. Many more.

If your templates aren't working right, just use the template editor and fix em. Speaking of templates, the X-Station ships with a lot more than the Photon too. I think the photon was shipping with 7 or something like that when I was thinking about getting it. The X-Station was shipping with 25 or something like that.

And lets not forget those nice semi weighted keys on the X-Station.

Yeah, I don't think it's even up for debate which one is better. The X-Station is clearly better in every imaginable way. The only thing is the price. The X-Station costs over twice as much as the Photon...

But if you already have an X-Station, you obviously have the money. So it just blows my mind why you would even consider trading down to the Photon?
 
i dont have that kind of money.

so the Photon X 25 is a good idea or a bad idea for someone with not alote of money.

can i load a sample into to it and play around like that? (like in the jdub vidoes) thats wat i really wanna do with it.
 
The Photon is great for someone without a lot of money.

No, you can't load a sample into it. It's just a controller. So, if you have some software, you can load a sample into the software and use the Photon to control that software. That's basically the same thing as loading it into the Photon, but you have to have it connected to a computer.
