Akai Mpc or a laptop?

Thats also true. I could borrow cubase from a friend of mine, ( the others you can get from the net, my guess not that legally), but ill stick on buying the software my self. Getting the software free what others payfor, that isnt my thing. Eventhough youd get them for free, it's not that motivating (+ they might come with some flaws). Since im trying to start in a proffessional manner, ill stick to buying it (eventhough this means thousand dollars more on my budget) But good thing you pointed that out, better edit it, before ill get dissed on (more)!
 
not to mention that would feel stupid. spending a couple of thousand dollars on hardware, then get the software (which is also critical) for free. I needed a slap, thanks.

If you got 2G to spend why don't you just buy a Motif ES8 workstation, you will get a load of sounds to play with and you will have a complete beatmaker all in one. I went the software route because I already had a desktop computer. I have a laptop too but they usually come with crap soundcards and are crap to upgrade so I only use it for messing about with sounds.
 
hmm... that looks nice, but i think i feel more comfortable making music with a computer with a nice big screen rather then fiddling with a lcd screen, like an Apple G4 Powerbook Notebook Computer with SuperDrive (1.67GHz, 17 in.) or a Rain Recording LiveBook Pentium M Mobile Laptop Audio Computer which im likely to buy along with a good sequencer,plug-ins,synths & samplers (steinberg, propellerheads or native instruments probably). plus an mpc1000 and a keyboard midi controller. Oh yea and probably a new soundcard, currently im running with SB audigy 2 nx (or will that do?). Also im more familiar with computers. hmm... looks like my budgets gone up to 5 grand.

It's a different beast right there.I'm saying this because u don't want to be overwhelmed by over-gearing,but if ur not,more power to u homebwoi!!
 
^ true, quality equipment doesent mean good music! Im fed up with my computer and current software im using, so i want to get going right away. No doubt it will take me some time to learn how to use all the equipment, but im willing to put time (and money) into it! Ive composed a lot of songs on my piano and guitar (+ pen&paper) and i got tracks ready, but its frustrating to not get my composements out, thats why im spending on to get good equipment! The quality ive been getting from my current software (crap) sound awful and unrealistic (im trying to get close to real sounding instruments on most of my tracks) plus I cant get the songs out because the drivers and programs are a little F'd up! but thanks for your concern!
 
lol, I should define that question a little better because its badly formed and i think that isnt the question anymore!
