A smooth, syrupy sound for a pop-soul song?

I'm a newbie and am grateful for your advice.

I suppose most of the members here don't like songs that may be termed "easy listening, smooth, syrupy".

But if we simply talk about the production techniques, may I ask how one can come up with that sound? As an example, I have listened to the Blue's Colours album. Perhaps you remember that boy band in the early 2000s.

This is their latest album, and I suppose we can apply the phrase 'syrupy, smooth harmony' to their sound.

Their single, King of the world, receives this review: "Lead single King of the World sustains a syrupy, non-threatening doo-wop vibe throughout. The plucked string bass and mellow vibe will inevitably draw comparisons between this track and Ben E. King’s legendary Stand By Me. In fact, Blue’s tribute simply flips around some of the older song’s chords and voila, there’s a ‘new’ song. It also doesn’t help that the choruses feature some oddly wispy harmonies that make listeners ponder whether this is the same hyper-masculine boyband that delivered All Rise."

Thank you so much.
