So 40's beats are pretty epic and I have been into his style lately. "unforgettable" off of drake's - thank me later album is amazing tonal sampling... I need to know how he does this.

I found that he sampled Aaliyah's - (at your best) You are love
(whosampled)

I listened through the sample and can't find the sections he chopped for the instruments in the beat, I know its filtered but I didn't hear a section without vocal or drum overlay.

My question is, what samples does he use in Unforgettable, or how did he separate the layers in Aaliyah's song?

bro, its an original beat over the "Let mee knooww" Aaliyah vocal sample. He just kinda tuned a beat with the sample.

Yea i get the vocal sample... I'm saying if you listen to her song the instruments in her song sound just like the ones in unforgettable but filtered. I'm trying to figure out if he sample her song for instrumentation too or just recreated it

wow i never knew that was Aaliyah , I always thought that whoever sang the intro had an amazing voice

Again... just like ridiculous said...

Original beat + first 20 seconds of that song = Unforgettable

Dont overthink it... His beat has nothing to do with the Aaliyah song.

He built the beat around the beginning vocal, not the rest of the song

^^^^^^
well this might be the original inspiration for Aaliyah, but the 40 beat samples aaliyah's vocals from "At your best (you are love)"

thanks for the replies everyone.. at this point im over the vocal sample and I was asking about the synth instrumentation but it seems it is original and not a sample.
