Hehehe....

Last yr we had a quite heated debate about it, but once again here we are... for those who don't know it already, TIESTO won the 2002 poll, with mighty Sasha in 2nd and Diggers in 3rd...

Let's start the bash, hehehe :p

01. Tiesto
02. Sasha
03. John Digweed
04. Paul Van Dyk
05. Armin Van Buuren
06. Paul Oakenfold
07. Judge Jules
08. Carl Cox
09. Ferry Corsten
10. Lee Burridge
11. Danny Tenaglia
12. Danny Howells
13. Steve Lawler
14. Mauro Picotto
15. Sander Kleinenberg

WTF is this? the progressive/trance top 100?

AUGH SO Mad!

Well first off...Ive seen Tiesto a few times..and all I can say is..He blew!..I mean not just for Trance....I like some trance..but his SUCKED..i mean wow...it was all the same..blah blah blah..Anyways...Mr. Danny T...is a master...craftsmen..and vertan of the art...he has meaningful uplifting sets..and its brilliance...how is he not atleast in the top 5! come on grr..ok im really mad about this whole thing...but ya..

Where's Fat Boy Slim eh? And by looking at that 10 I'd say 4etski is bang on: there must be a high number of trance/progressive readers of DJ.

alright, here's the whole list, Top 100

take a look at place 77...... me calls that a bloody shame !

The list is soooo wrong!!!!
4etski your right,

When Mark Farina comes in at number 77, you know somethings wrong.

Hey Dave, what are you doing on the list ( number 51)?

I'd take a dump on that list any day.. geeeeeeeez, what do they judge by really

Yah, that list is kinda' lame. Some all-star talent representing on that list, but the order is ****ed.

what is it based on? popular vote?

i think it would be interesting if they made a list based on technical skill.

p.s. that top 100 is bullsh*t.

The list is based on popular vote yes, for the last couple of months I've received a 1000 promotional - read as 'lobby" - emails and flyers from everywhere (agencies, promoters, etc.) asking to vote on this, and that, etc. So have perhaps a million others involved in dance music... parties are organized to cast votes for the in-house DJs and all, it's pretty competitive!

Again I'll say what I said last year, and every yr since the poll was estabilished: we may disagree with the results but they are based on popularity, and trance/house/prog are in high demand these days, whether we like it or not! ;) And the DJ Mag poll is the official DJs poll, whether we accept or not. :p Now, if the house/prog/trance fraternity is the most active and voting one... the voted jocks are not the ones to blame heh?

Besides, the "top DJ" crown is not necessarily the "Best DJ" title, as the "best" is a very controversial, ample and subjective concept. The "top DJ" is, IMHO, the guy who, for the past yr or so, showed some consistence and reach with his/her work as producer and DJ, just that.

Good point, City!!!

:p Well, he plays and produces a lot, at least a LOT more than me... he's been DJing for perhaps 20+ yrs, he owns a label that sell by the bucketload and is still very influential I guess. When time comes to cast your vote, one name pops in mind and for many people Oakenfold is sinonymous of DJing...

Hehehe.....:p

Does this poll rely on regular people casting votes? That would explain a lot of the choices (not that I disagree with all of them).

no it relys on irregular people casting votes.

you get a ballot when you buy any laxative!!

{drum roll please}

ba-dum chhhhhhh

This poll is of a popularity contest nothing more. They usually make these polls to find out what genre of dance music is getting much attention at the moment and trance still seems to be the winner.

If this poll is based on actual DJ skills then it would be a different kind of mess cause who's to judge which DJ has better skills than the other when there are tons of factors and genres to consider.

I agree this poll stinks big time but this is the only logical thing to do in poll and it is always based on popularity. I mean, the only reason Tiesto is on top of this list because he's playing the most popular genre of dance music at the moment what if some odd way Tiesto decided to switch his genre from trance to hardcore jungle, I doubt it that he'd still be on the top 50 of this list if that happens.
