what to do with midi files

I was looking at packs to purchase on producerloops.com they have midi loops so my question is with those can i throw them in ableton and just play them via my midi controller?

play them via ableton's internal sounds or any vsts you want - you will have to allocate sounds to each track after you import the file but that is about all

Thats not what i mms asking. If i buy loops in midi format can i play them on my midi controller? Not i.ternal

without knowing your midi controller the answer has to be one of maybe but don't count it

Play them how? Your MIDI controller probably doesn't really play back anything...

Why don't you download some free MIDI loops from somewhere so you can understand what they are and how they work?

Drop the midi into a midi channel with either a vst or internal instrument on it, make sure the MIDI FROM box is set to ALL INS, enable your controller under options in the preferences, you should be good to go. Remember the midi loop will play the VST/ Instrument but your keyboard should also play the VST/ instrument. As bandcoach said midi loops are not played in your controller, signals are sent via the controller.
