OK..if you want to play in the key of Dminor, you would use the Dminor scale, so there really isn't a difference. However there is a difference between the key of Dminor and the key of D. They use two different (yet similar) scales. Also, a Dminor chord is made up of selective notes from the Dminor scale, as is any chord with their respective scale. If this isnt clear or I missed something let me know I can word it differently

oh and the only difference between the key of Dminor and Dmajor (regular D) is Dminor has a minor 3rd and Dmajor has a major 3rd. What this means is the 3rd note in the scale is the only difference. In Dminor the 3rd note is an F note, and in Dmajor the 3rd note is an Fsharp note (one note up). btw the Dminor and Dmajor chords are both made up of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes of their respective scales. just search Dminor scale and u can see all the notes in the scale mapped out on a keyboard
